Default TRD Strut Tower Brace

Interested in some knowledgeable input. My GS4 has the L-Tuned suspension and steering ecu and I’m on the stock 17” wheels with Toyo Proxes FZ4’s. I’ve not had the opportunity to push it to its handling limit yet, but so far it handles pretty damn good (especially for a 4-dr 3,700lb sedan). The few chances I’ve had to get around some corners or esses at speed have shown the car to be surprisingly solid. At the same time, the ride is just fine – firm, but hasn’t entirely lost a good ride, and it’s quiet – all in all, as I’ve said before, for me – it’s almost a perfect combination of handling and ride.

My question is – for those of you who’ve experienced the addition of the TRD STB (or any other STB) – can you feel a difference? It’s cheap enough and if it makes an already good handling car better then it’s worth it.

I’m not interested in adding it just to say I’ve got it – don’t need to impress anybody but me. The LT suspension and ecu were definitely worth the bucks – am I apt to feel another improvement with STB?

For the record (in my earlier years, I belonged to SCCA and participated in events in TR-3 and MGA and later owned 2 Beemers) so – while I’m not entering any events anymore, I do appreciate good handling. Your thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Improvement with STB will be less noticeable than the springs/shocks, but noticeable anyway. The car will just have less 'flex' when cornering or going over bumps/dips.

The TRD sways (if put on right!) will make a bigger difference, reducing body roll in corners SIGNIFICANTLY without hardly any trade-off in ride (I now know since my front sway was recently REinstalled correctly).

Anyway, STB is worth it IMHO. It's more noticeable than the rear STB I installed, which was also noticeable though.

Default Must've been your car!

Thanks Bit – that’s exactly what I’m looking for – I also notice that you have the WEDS wheels – I just saw them on another GS tonight and liked them so much I wrote down the specs – they were 235/40/8.5 front and 265/35/9.5 rear - was that your car? Did a google search on GS400 and got a personal site that LOVED the GS4 – was also silver – sounds like you! Or maybe your wife?

That sounds like my site, and my car, yes.

Glad you like it. Those rims are rare - I got them from a place in California called MAS Wheelhouse with Nitto tires installed. The tires, like the Potenzas on the 17s run a bit bumpy when cold but smooth out when warm, and the rims aren't completely vibration free, but close now that I got centering rings a good balance, and finally got my sway problem resolved!

I've upgraded the front tires to 245/40s now, and will upgrade the back to 275/35s in the new couple of months probably.

Its a go.. I have one and YES it made the world of difference! Car is not as jumper over un-even pavements. Much tighter too, works well with steering ECU. Go get one

Garnet,

I've got almost the same setup as you factory 17s, ecu, modded suspension (slightly different shocks with the Bilsteins) and added the TRD front tower brace well after I was used to the other changes listed above.

I'd say it's a much smaller difference compared to the other mods you've made. I could tell some difference - as others have mentioned - going over railroad tracks, bumps, etc. Just a little stiffer, less body roll.

IMO - for the price and ease of installation, I'd still recommend going ahead and doing it.

Default OK!

OK, I'm convinced (I'm easy 'cause I wanted it anyway). Ordered Friday. Thanks for the feedback.
