Default Help! Front Brake Rotors

Help, I'm into my first brake job on the 99 GS300 and can't get the front brake rotor to come off. Am I missing something? Any tricks to getting these things off?

Thanks Much!

Bob

dude there are two little holes on either side of the hub, you have to get a metric bolt well actually 2. Then screw them in and tighten them down. this will push the rotor off the hub

just hit it with a rubber hammer (make sure the caliper is off) and it should break free.. mine was kind of a pain to get off because the rotor had rusted to the hub.

Does someone know exactly what thread size the holes are? I just did my first brake job last month and I was told 8mm and that was not it. I ended up hitting them off with a hammer. Sometimes you have to hit them suckers pretty hard.

You would be surprised how much torque two bolts can have. I did this on another car. Initially I was banging at the rotor for about half an hour and it didnt even budge. I proceeded to goto the hardware store and buy two bolts for it. It took about 15 seconds to get the rotor off. I used a small wrench too and the rotor popped right off. The other sides came off just as easily.

Use penetrating oil by CRC or other brand and wait fot 5 -10 minutes this come off easy. make sure use brake cleaner to afterwards to clean penetrating oil. If you are going to reuse the rotor this is second best solution. The first best sulotion is using the 2 bolts to lift rotor out.
