New LS430 Owner -Question about Rear Sunshade
Hi everyone,
I purchased a 2006 LS a couple weeks ago with 94,000 miles on it . It is not the UL model, but does have the Mark Levinson Navi system, rear sunshade , etc.
After the second day of owning it, they rear sunshade became disconnected from the actual scissor frame.
I searched the forums looking for some information about how the shade is supposed to be connected to the frame, but I can only find some mentions of a clip that is supposed to hold the shade to the frame.
If if anyone has a pic of how it attaches that would be great. I could glue it back on, I suppose, if needed.
The only other problem I've had has been with the steering lock, a few times now, which prevented me from starting the car. After jerking the wheel back and forth for several minutes I finally got it started.
thanks,
Jerry

Thats a strange issue with the steering lock. havent seen too many issues with that.
Rear shade problem is somewhat common. id check on lexus dealer parts diagram to see if you can order just the clips. lexus south atlantas website has a detailed parts section with diagrams.

On occasion I have the issue with my steering lock. It's almost always after I park the car and the wheel isn't pointed straight. I find that I have to nudge the steering wheel a little bit while trying to turn the ignition and that usually frees it up...

I was getting concerned with the steering lock. I watched a few YouTube videos, I guess it happens on some other Lexus models as well, like the RX350.
When i park it now, I just make sure I have the wheels straight .
My car only came with a 2 month power train warranty, so anything related to the steering lock won't be covered.
Thanks everone one for the info!

My question would be if it's any different than other cars, both my maxima, and my wife' scan be under tension, which needs to be released before the key can be turned.. I don't think my BMW wheel locks. 2006's had failures rendering the cars undriveable until fixed. What may be troubling about the LS is it seems electric, like all else. If I were on an incline I would not want my wheels straight....
edit it to illustrate say a ratchet has 80 teeth, or 36.....maybe the column lock has 8, so if a wheel is moved there but the tires aren't there, the column is under tension...

My 2001 Sonoma is notorious for doing this with the column lock. If I park and the wheels are turned, it will put tension stress on the column and bind the lock assembly. Moving the steering wheel slightly always unbinds it so I can turn the key and as soon as I turn the key, the steering wheel usually jumps a few inches in the direction of the wheels..
I hope your problems with the sunshade are easily rectified.

05 rear shade
My shade started to get rickety on deployment, so to avoid wear & tear--while continuing to benefit from it--I had a mechanic deploy and disable the shade. The shade, IMHO, is not a hindrance to driving awareness even at night.
The rear deck remains in showroom condition.
