New need some help with transmision
Hello, a female friend have a IS 250 2006 Lexus with aprox 60k miles on it, Recently the local Lexus service centre here in Puerto Rico said that the transmission is leaking some oil and charge $800.00 for the repair. She said that the car was working normally and have notice no oil etc where she parks the car. Can you please give me your opinion etc? Please let me know any other information you need.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English

I would be skeptical... I haven't heard of anyone leaking transmission fluid.
I would see what other responses you receive here, then maybe probe into what the service centre actually did to "fix" the issue.

That is very strange especially for a car at 60,000 miles. These transmissions are "sealed" so you can't blame it on a loose drain nut since we don't have one. Use the search function and look at the headache involved just to change the "lifetime" transmission fluid. I would say at the very least before forking over that kind of money, look to see that there isn't anything actually leaking if you haven't already. It could just be a simple tightening of some bolts and you'd save your friend those $800 for something else.

I called it a "lock-out" mechanism, when it is basically part of the gear selector mechanism.

My BMW had a massive Transmission Leak. My mechanic said that it was the first time he had seen it. Apparently the pan warped and he fixed it and refilled it, he charged $140. However, I had had my pan dropped and refilled before. It cost $140. I would say give it a second look.
