I have an 06 with the Morimoto HID kit. Both bullbs work great, when my lights work. Sometimes the headlights will come on, other times they won't. I've been through all the connections on the HID's and no issues there. My DRL's and high beams work also. I don't think the stalk is bad if all the other lights work, and it's not a fuse or relay because sometimes they work. I swapped out the ballasts and bulbs just to make sure and same thing. Any ideas? This happens both on auto and when headlights are on.

Check and clean your grounds on your HID kit, they can become rusty and or loose. take the grounds off and clean the area grounding point and reattach,

Relays often become finicky, will work sometimes and not others. I think you dismissed relay too quickly. I'd swap another relay in there. There's a lot of electrical wizardry in the stalk also, so I wouldn't discount that one completely either.

My 1990 LS 400 has HIDs and does that- only the driver side headlight though- takes a few tries to get it on. But, it has bigger elec issues lol.
