Default Coolant smell and consuming lots of it but no leaks?

I just bought a 2010 ISF with 108k on it. When I got it home I checked under the hood and noticed the coolant was below the low line. It was in the middle when I bought the car but I figured maybe the system needed to be burped or something so I topped it off. After driving another 50 miles, it was back at the low line. I noticed a smell that I originally thought was just a dusty cabin filter with some old air freshener scent (sweet) but after reading some other threads I'm thinking it's burning coolant. My guess is it's the valley plate? Any ideas on how to tackle this? Unfortunately they have already done all of the recall work (wire harness cover is cracked and duct taped together) so I will be paying out of pocket on this. I'm in Southern California if you have a shop recommendation.

It may be leaking somewhere where it cant be seen.

Most common issue is the water pump. Need to put it on the rack and examine everything.

They can also do a pressure test on the cooling system.

My $$ is that you have the Valley Plate Leak............... unfortunately your out of warranty so it'll be out of pocket should be around $1300 for the fix. I just had mine fixed about 6 weeks ago and that was my total minus a $500 courtesy credit from Lexus

Not to get off subject. 100k miles is not necessarily a lot of miles on an ISF I bought one with excess of 100k. But without offense taken, did you check on the history of the car first??? Spending what we do on these cars with even higher miles I think everyone needs to be diligent on what they are buying. I think it would be hard fo me to have the previous owner make me swallow they did not know of this issue. Just offering some constructive angles

I bought it from a used car dealer so I may have some recourse but we shall see, they have a 30 day power train warranty but I don't know the details. Even if they cover it, I'm not sure I would want their garage working on my car. The car fax showed that it had been maintained by a Lexus dealer, but I have seen plenty of stories on here that the dealer just tops it off and ignors it unless you really press the issue. Now that I have discovered the master thread on this issue, it is obviously a build quality issue that Lexus should have made a service campaign to save face on. It's not caused by how the car is driven or maintained.

Likely from the valley plate as other have mentioned. You won't be able to see it by just looking down into your engine bay. When I had the leak I couldn't see any pink slime anywhere in the engine bay. I had the dealer take a look under the powertrain warranty and they confirmed the leak. Sorry this had to happen to you. At this point our car ares getting up there in mileage and age and it seems like this issue is happening a lot to ISF owners.

All the systems of Valley Plate leak, this occurred to my F as well lucky still under power train Warranty I was 69780. If you don't have a lot of experience wrenching yourself a working on cars I would not recommend tackling this job find a reputable shop or Lexus dealership, this job is not for the faint of heart you really need to know what you're doing. First off, go to www.lexus.com and click under owners. Register yourself, and insert the Vin number of the vehicle and see the actual thorough report of the service history. Somethings will be gut wrenching because this service history Lexus provides to owners is very thorough. It may come as a surprise to you, is all I'm saying. At least you'll know what's up with your ride. Carfax ain't crap compared to this, trust me.
Second, after you find out what's really up with the vehicle, call Lexus corporate and plead your case. Someone will take note of your concern and pass it along to a service manager in your area. You will be directed to a nearby Lexus dealership for verification of your concern. Either way you cut it, you're going to spend money out of pocket. This way you have a fighting chance that Lexus can cut you a deal and you can meet them 50/50. This will also ensure your vehicle is in good hands and the work can be guaranteed.
I'm aware you're not under warranty and that's okay. Just be honest and polite and more than likely they'll cut you a break. I've had nothing but great experiences in the past doing this. Just recently our 2007 Camry needed a new alternator at approx. 87k miles. Toyota made it clear the factory warranty was only up to 36k. After some pleading, not only did the dealership cover the labor costs but Toyota covered the part. Saving us well over $500. Yes, over $500 they were charging for parts and labor on this. Once again corporate came through, anyways good luck!

Except for the big gap in maintenance history, approx 52k to 89k I think it was? Everything in the first 52k looked good, very good as a matter of fact. The big gap doesn't mean anything went wrong. I've actually sought out a mechanic that personally works on my car. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but all it does it hurt the resale value. The good news is there's no record of coolant leaks, meaning you might just have a chance for Lexus to lend a hand. I am aware the Lexus owners service history allows the owner to manually input data to update the history. That would have been great if the owner would have followed up on that. Your car looks like it was well taken care of. Like most, we all wise up and find ways to get the maintenance done if not better than the dealership.
