I tried to google but could not find what should be the jack specifications for 2001 RX 300. Please can someone suggest a jack that i should get. As of now i want to start with changing the AF Sensors.
I was looking at the following sale at Sears. Will 2-1/4 ton Jack work with RX300?

Well that's a 2 1/4 ton jack. = 4500lbs.
Our vehicle weighs around 4000lbs. (AWD)

Albeit your only jacking one side at a time. But these jacks have very weak hydraulic pumps in them.
Not very long lasting and leak at times causing it to slowly loose it's holding power.
Use jack stands after you pump it up.

You get what you pay for.

I'd go for a heavier duty one if your planning to work occassionaly under your car(s).

FWIW...I didn't use a jack when I replaced my A/F sensor in Bank 1.
I just crawled under it. But I'm around 165-168lbs.

I have one of those jacks for my smaller cars, and I also have a heavy duty one. But this
2 1/4 jack along with the 3tons will not lift the RX enough to even get the wheel off; that's why I went ahead and purchased bigger heavy duty jacks for this and my minivan. So, if your planning on using this for the RX then don't buy it, it's definitely not safe enough to crawl underneath.
Make sure to always use jack stands no matter what you use to jack up the car!

I'm not a fan of the small cheap jacks, even the Craftsmans. They leak, are hard to control on the let down, and many don't lift high enough. As for the sensor: When I changed the AF sensor on the back of the engine, I just used ramps in the front. A lot safer!

For the jack, like Nad said....You get what you pay for. I found the jack below to be of good quality and price. It's low enough to get under our Camry and lifts high enough for the RX. I've had it for a year and no problems.

I can only use the floor jack for the front. For my FWD, I can not find a good spot to lift in the back. For an AWD, I would not lift it at rear diff/pumpkin. The 2 spots for the scissors jack do not make a good spot to lift with floor jack [Adapter is needed]. The jack stands also do not fit any where.

For me to crawl under, the vehicle needs to be on the ramps. I use the floor jack for the front to lift the front wheels only and try my best to keep 3 wheels on the ground.

Any work, which involves risking your limbs, is not a DIY project. It is best suited for professionals who have the right equipment and tools.

The service manual shows the front and rear jack points, for floor jacks. Then, the jack stands go, where indicated, on the side rails by the tires. You aren't supposed to trust hydraulic jacks. They are just to lift the vehicle until you place the jack stands. Then, I release the hydraulic jack enough to make sure the jack stands are supporting the car.

I have noticed that professional mechanics mostly use frame members and not the side rails when placing jack stands.

I haven't experienced any lack of hydraulic jack lift range from normal hydraulic jacks (not compact car ones). My RX300 is one of the lighter ones (3,615 pounds), so I think that a 1 1/2 ton (3,300 lb.) hydraulic jack is plenty to jack either the front or rear half of the car.

You should not be trusting your life to a hydraulic jack, only to properly placed jack stands.

Can you be kind enough to describe/elaborate where the rear floor jack goes?
I dont have side rail adapters for the floor jack and jack-stands. The adapter would safely bridge the metal seam. There is little use in investing in the adapter as the lift/support point is the same for me in the back and right now I can do one or the other.

I am still unpacking from a move, so I don't have my service manuals available for photos.

The floor jack points (I have FWD), as I recall, are both side-to-side beams that have a hole in the center (water drainage?).

The jack stand points that mechanics seem to favor (the same ones they use to lift the RX in the shop) are strong-looking beams that run in the front-to-rear direction. Again, the service manual says to use the side-rails for resting jack stands.

All these points look very sturdy, but if in doubt don't do it.

I have the Craftsman 2-1/4 floor Jack. I bought it 2 years ago on black Friday for $40 wow. It is very small and came with a case so it is very easy for storage. It does the job good. I used it to lift the car not hold the car. I have 2 jack stand to hold the car. If your purpose of the floor jack is to hold the car, you should buy a heavy duty one. GL
