Default Sticky dash question

I’m going to be picking up a 2009 ES this week. All in all it’s in really good shape with only 94k miles and is a one owner car. However, it’s got the typical sticky dash going on. The sales guy said Lexus might still replace it under recall but I have a feeling with it being over 15 yrs old that’s not going to happen. If there are any suggestions on how I might get Lexus to replace the dash if possible, please let me know.

I’ve been looking around some but I’m not really a fan of the cheap carpet laying on top. I also saw the more expensive overlays that use silicone to hold them on but saw where those don’t last a long time plus they are pretty expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions of a decent dash cover that would be in the $100 or less range that works decent?

Any suggestions on how to maybe reduce the stickiness by cleaning it or is it best to just kind of leave it alone and don’t touch it?

I see you have been a member for a while. There have been several hundred posts on many threads about this melting-sticky dash problem and ways to resolve it and many are linked below. Reading them should keep you busy for some time. You missed the deadline for the recall by at least 8 years.

sticky dash is a problem in these cars. Mine was that way when I bought it I don't remember what I cleaned it with but what ever it was helped. Try everything and park it in the shade. I use a windshield cover parking outside. 'been ok for a couple years.

There's a "sticky dash kit" which is a kit for the dash that sort of lets you paint over the dash. Unfortunately for me, it eventually failed for me. The dash, even if it's not in direct sunlight, softens and melts just from heat alone. So if I have a windshield cover etc, it doesn't matter if it's hot out.

Looks just like the way mine was......

I ended up using the angelus acrylic flat black paint and painted the entire dash. Took like 30 minutes. I used a foam brush. Dash looks fantastic and no more sticky dash/glare in the windshield.

Wipe the dash with clorox wipes and clean it well before painting.
