You need to provide better information ? Ignition shut off does that mean the car wont start . Does the engine turn over ? The keys required for the sc430 all have a chip in them to hand shake with immobilizer [ smart ? ] Can you provide more details of what the symptoms are

Further to my message using the "dumb Key" the engine turned on twice but quickly stopped running. I realized that I probably didn't have the key card close enough to the ignition for it to continue to run. When I tried with the key card close to the ignition there was no response. ignition was on, lights worked but the engine would not turn over. I tried with the smart key and also could not get anything. It seems the immobilizer is engaged even though the light stops flashing when I engage the key to the ignition which implys that it is working properly.

The dumb key is this your flat wallet key ? If yes then the holder is where the chip is . You have to hold it against the ignition or
keep it close to it. Then turn key. Does the engine crank but not start? Did you try using your regular [ smart key ] and hold the plastic wallet key holder close to the ignition switch.

First off, welcome to the forum mkotoole1.
Please provide a little background information. Did you just buy the car? What year is your SC430? What are you calling the "dumb key"? Is it the plastic wallet key that mrblister is referring to or is it the valet key (it is a metal key but has no buttons)? Is this a new problem or has it just started happening?

You can try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if that resets the immobilizer.
