Default Has anyone had to replace motor mounts?

If so, can you tell me the mileage when the problem occurred?

Also, how bad did things get -- what were your symptoms?

Thanks!

Default Motor Mount Replacement

Hey there. Just replaced my motor mounts in my 2004 SC. 69,000 miles. Just felt a bit more vibration than I usually perceived when at a stop light. Not much vibration when driving, but only at a stop with engine on. Replaced at Lexus dealer. They replaced both engine mounts, insulators and labor....$630...ouch.

And they also told me there updated brackets if the vibration was still perceptible to me. $330 to install them with labor.

Best,
Alan

I replaced the motor mounts and tranny mount on my 2002 @64k miles. The MMs had rips but the tranny mount was fine. My local Lexus dealer matched an on line price and it was about $200 w/tax for the parts and my Indy installed them for about $150.

As said before, you might notice vibrations when in gear and stopped, hear a clunk or bang when going from reverse to drive or vise versa.

do an advance search on this subject and only select to search in the sc430 threads, there were plenty of discussions because this is a common occurrence on our cars.

+1 on what was said above.
If you have any inkling that they are worn. Then I would diagnosis it further.
My diagnosis for bad motor mounts. Is to watch how much movement there is while someone else revs the motor. There will be movement, but shouldn't be three four inches worth. Should be an inch or less there abouts left and right.

That's helpful Coleroad. At least with a little metrics like those it is easier than our seat-of-the-pants measurements, at least for those of us with uncalibrated tuchies.

Should replace it at around 60-80k miles. They are definitely shot over 90k miles. The difference is night and day. Feels like a new car - no vibrations from the engine, engine doesn't move under acceleration (car seems more responsive). It's really easy - you can call any auto shop and ask them if they can replace your engine 2x and 1x transmission mount for $120

Motor mounts are definitely items that make a huge difference in how the car feels. New motor mounts make the car feel quiet, smooth and responsive. Since they are made out of rubber their wear really depends on how the car has been driven and the climate the car is in. Aggressive driving style that puts a lot of torque on the motor and hotter weather tend to wear out these rubber pieces quicker too. Its not unusual though to see cars with over 150k miles still having the original MM in great condition.
