I wonder if you could slide one of these underneath the leather and wire it into the existing heater circuit. The two pads are only around $60. I don't know how many brands of these exist but these are made by Rostra. An upholstery shop should be able to easily install them.

You are right, that sounds pretty do-able. Also I have a friend who is an upholsterer, so if I can figure out the wiring, he can do the install

I wonder if they are variable heat, or just on and off?

They do have adjustable dials, and they are pretty inexpensive on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROSTRA-250-1...MAAOSwFV9XzU11

Measure the resistance of the passenger seat element (that's still good) and compare it against the resistance of the replacement. If they're anywhere close, and they probably are, then you can just wire it to the existing controller and skip the extra wiring and controls that come with the replacement element.

I think the upholsterer has hard part in that deal.

Please circle back and give us an update with any input the upholsterer gives you.

If this can work, many would be very happy.

Johnny on my 2004 GX470 my drivers side seat bottom was not working under my extended warranty they paid for the parts
and labor. I don't know if the price would be same on sc430 but its same amount of labor i believe

grid $ 386.48
labor $161.00
clips $ 20.00

My dealership said they don't repair, they replace and I recall it being about $2K and that would leave me with a color mismatch.

The shop manual explains how to take the seat leather off and install a new grid you need to get new hog clips and some staples but my dealership did my gx470 under the extended warranty. I think you could take your seat out yourself and a good upholstery
shop could do. I would inquire with a leather upholstery shop . The grid is from lexus approx. $ 375.00 is your bottom grid out or is it the back grid one out .

I used to place my knee in the middle of the front drivers side and passenger side seat bottom when I was trying to clean in the back and then realized that for sure could strain the wire grid. I stopped doing that. During any of your mods to your car you probably did the same that may have caused your problem or just getting in and out .
