Possible for coolant to leak into the gearbox?
Hi,
Just wondering if there's been any incident where the coolant in the SC430 is leaked into the gearbox at the radiator. I mean, these cars do have the transmission fluid running through the radiator, right? I've read that this occurs a lot on LS430 and many Mercedes models.
Would it be a good preventive measure to replace the radiator anyway? Or, is it ok to wait till there're signs of such leakage (if it doesn't usually begin as a major leak)?
Thanks

Just in general. E.g. a 2003 w/ 100k miles.
A radiator is very cheap and the job very easy. But if not really necessary (i.e. the radiator tends to leak before the oil cooler leaks) then why bother?

If you plan to keep the vehicle for a very long time, you could purchase now and change it one of these days.
Mine is a 2002 with 70k miles and my radiator went bad a few months ago. One difference, my car has always been in very Hot Florida.

Yes, the top tank had a crack and it was leaking...very easy to change.
