Default Need Advice: PPE Header Install and Possible Flowmaster Cat and/or 3rd Cat Delete

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning on getting PPE Headers installed.

I have called three shops, and the install is consistently between $1000 and $1200 (plus price of headers).

One shop recommended I delete my third set of cats, and replace the second set of cats with Flowmaster High Flow Cats. The PPE header install PLUS flowmaster cats plus third cat deletion would cost between $2000 and $2200 (plus price of headers).

Questions:

1. Would deleting the SECOND set of cats with Flowmaster effect emissions? Would the high flow cat improve performance?

2. Would deletion of the THIRD set of cats effect emissions, since during the emission test there is something stuck in the tailpipe? Would deleting the third cats improve performance?

3. In your opinion, would the extra $1000 or so I would need to pay for the cat changes/deletions be worth the cost and or risk?

Comments/suggestions/criticisms welcomed..

You should check with your state laws on emissions tests/requirements. I would highly advise NOT to delete any cats. Deleting those will greatly affect your emissions. It's just not worth it and if it doesn't pass you'll have to replace your custom exhaust with the stock exhaust system. I havn't gotten my car smogged yet, but I did replace the stock headers with PPE headers and it sounds/feels pretty good. I also got rid of my resonators and have universal Borla mufflers.

Thanks for the reference Gene. Brett no problem deleting the 3rd CAT - there is no O2 sensor fo mthat so it doesn't effect the emission tests. However do not change or modify the main CATS where on each side there is an O2 sensor before and after. In addition to risking failing the emission test you also risk battling CEL codes when the ECU gets confused.

Yes - great sound and performance. I also changed the resonators for high flow ones from Vibrant Performance but could have gone for a quieter option (ultra quite) for them - I have a drone at about 1900 rpm but I'm used to it now and drive through it with C-gate shifting which I use all the time; lower mileage but more fun

Hey Buddy,

Thanks for the message and clarrification. I also responded to your PM. Sounds like the best option in my case is the PPE headers and the Dr. Gas X-Pipe. You think that would work with the magnaflow exhaust I am running? Is the X-Pipe better than just straight piping? Also, do the high flow reasonators improve performance?

Thanks again for being so helpful!

Yes but not that one. You will need the Tandem X-pipe with custom angles. Compare their OEM product with what they built for me for my custom Mach V exhaust.

Dr. Gas standard Tandem X-pipe

Default Custom exhaust with Dr. Gas Tandem X-pipe

I have a problem posting multiple pictures with my IPad recently because the forum software uses the same name for every photo ... Image.jpg so each images overwrites the previous one. Anyway here's my exhaust.
