Replaced Timing Belt after 11 years
The replacement of the timing belt at 100,000 miles or so has been mentioned here a lot, and it was pretty much out of my mind, as my 2002 SC430 has but 45,000 miles or so on it. However, in reviewing things with my service manager before I put the car into semi-storage for the winter, he mentioned that the belt should be changed at the 7 year mark, even if the car has not yet hit the mileage mark designated for the change.
As I have hit the 11 year mark, he strongly suggested we do this, and let's get a new water pump and replace all the belts while we are in there.
As I have no plans to sell the car, I said sure, and all that was done, which is fine with me, although it was a pricy job.
There are a number of members here who have low mileage on their 2002 cars (I bought mine in April of 2001), so I thought I might mention that timing belts, like any rubber product, will deteriorate over time, regardless of wear.

I have a 2002 with 50k on the clock and in the UK the service schedule recommends it is changed at 9 to10 years or 90,000 miles. I had mine changed last month at its annual service and asked for the old belt and it looks like new!!! No cracking or wear is visible at all.

Had mine for close on seven years now and bought it at 29k, so it will be a long time before I need another!!!!!

Manual for my 2004 SC calls for replacing timing belt at 90k miles or 108 months. Understand we have an 'interference' engine where belt failure likely results in catastrophic valve - piston collision! Happened to have replaced @ 68k miles just yesterday. With water pump and serpentine belt, local Naples, FL dealer charged $908 w/tax (after applying 15% coupon). Supplied loaner car. Also got quote from independent repair shop specializing in Lexus @ $850 w/o loaner.

What was the total for the timing belt, water pump, and new drive belt? I have an 2002 with 43,000 miles. I have held off but know i should do it at some point.

..I had mine done last week, after 90k on the belt. The belt didn't have a gash, nick or anything on it. I bought my kit on ebay. It included timing belt,water pump/gaskets/orings,both idlers,camshaft & oil seal,thermostat,drivebelt,tensioner & oil filter...i think there was 17 peices to the kit...$304.00...independent shop charged $400....
