Yes, the reader does clear the codes if you instruct it to. If that is what you mean by reset the ECU.

I would like to totally reset the ECU because I think the fault codes are wrong.

Depending on your reader it should have a reset button on it. That should clear the ECU and the codes. If the code pops up again, you know you have an issue.

If you want to reset the ECU without losing your seat and stereo settings, perform the following procedure:

1. Get in your car and insert key. (It doesn't matter if you close the door or not.)

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

5. Wait 2 minutes.

6. Remove key.

7. Done

Yes it works. Done it many times. Works on all years, 2002-2009.

Sorry to hear about your car having trouble. I used to think that the codes I was getting were wrong, but it turned out they never were.

What codes are you getting? Maybe we can help you troubleshoot the problem

I know I've done it and then realized how old it was.

Should this also work for a 2006 LS430? I know this post is old but I just tried this several times and it did NOT work. I have the Smartkey, I don't know if that makes a difference. I still inserted it per the instructions, turned it to 'on' (without starting it), pressed the gas pedal to the floor for 5 seconds, then turned the key to off (without removing it), then let go of the gas pedal, waited two minutes then removed the key. Still the same hard downshift issue.

Anyone know what I could possibly doing wrong? Has this method NOT worked for anyone else? I'm rather upset because I just bought my car from a Lexus dealer and it has 63k miles on it. I'm currently on a mini-getaway to Los Angeles, 5 hours from where I live, for the next week and just experienced the issue for the first time once I got to LA. I need to drive a lot while I'm here and cannot live with this problem. =/

perhaps you need to check the transmission fluid level...also, folks in the LS430 forum might be able to help.
