30,000Mile Dealer Maintenance coming? has anyone had this done?
Hello, just wanted to know if anyone hashad the 30K miles SC430 Dealer Maintenance check up?
what does it consist? I believe the dealer is charging me close to 300 dollars for it....(somewhere around that price area which includes oil change, rotate tires, balance, alignment, air filtration change.....etc.....)
can anyone elaborate on this? is it worth it?
thank you....

Yes, I had it done at 30,000 miles, for about that price.
The 30,000 and 60,000 mile services are the big ones. The 60,000 is the really big one, and can run two to three times as much, because at that point they change a lot of rubber parts, change all fluids and spend a lot of time looking at everything. (I have not reached 60,000 yet, but did on my SC400.)
It probably took you about 3 or 4 years to get to 30,000 miles, so the $300 price for a major look-see by experienced Lexus mechanics is amortized at $100/year. I don't think that's too much to spend to maintain a $60,000.00 car. (I did not think the very expensive 60,000 mile service on my SC400 was too much either -- that car, now owned by my younger brother, is well over 15 years old and is being driven on a daily basis without problems.)
If the 300 is a problem, just take it to Jiffy Lube, where, for $29.95, they will keep it rolling a little while longer.

I just had my 30k on an '02 for something slightly over $600 too. A note on the alignment. If you go to some place like NTB, where I went, you can pay for a multi-year alignment. I paid something like $170 which is good any time I want to take the car in for an alignment over the next 5 years.
At about 32K, I just had an oxygen sensor go out, and they replaced it under my warranty which will expire with 4 years in June.

The disparity in the cost of a 30,000 mile checkup or any other check up could vary with what needs to be done.
I know from experience that there are two basic elements to the cost: first is the cost of checking things over and in doing things that they know ahead of time will need to be done, such as fluid changes and the costs of inspecting. Secondly, there may be additional charges for things that the inspection discloses.
Some of this may account for the different amounts being reported here. To compare dealer's different costs, we should be looking at what the dealer says will be the base cost for the checkup prior to the service being performed. We've all been there when the service guys calls and says "Guess what we found . . . . "

when you guys are paying 600 dollars for a 30k service,,, are they doing a drain and refill on the tranny fluid or are they doing a complete 12 bottle flush???

I checked my files and find that I did not have the 30,000 service done because I have not hit 30,000 miles yet (I must have been thinking of my other car). But I do have a note in my file that the dealer recently told me that the 30,000 mile service generally runs about $600.00.
I'm at about 25,000 miles, and generally put about 5,000 miles a year on the car, so that won't be for another year, and since I just had the car in for new tires and other misc service, I may not be back until next spring to ask about the change/flush question.
Do you think I should insisit on a flush if they usually just do a change at that point, considering the few number of miles I do each year. If they usually don't do a flush until the 60,000 mile service, it could be another 5 or 6 years before I get to that point.

I use a independent service station that only works on Toyota / Lexus, they charged me $227 for the 30k maintenance. This didn't include the cabin air filter as I had already changed that on my own.
