Hats off to a couple of good guys for giving up their Saturday morning to play with the TIS and see what the difference was between pre-2008 cars that use the color coded TPMS vs. the 2008 (maybe 2007?) and forward models that use the unique serial numbered TPMS sensors. We had a 2002 and a 2006 in attendance. One thing we did find was that the software is sensitive to the cable - I have version 9.00.025 running on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and Windows 8.1 (Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 512GB flash storage + 128GB microSD). My cable was this one purchased from Amazon last December:
FlopTop had a cable he bought a couple of years ago. The only visible difference was the size of the printing on the label. But, TIS couldn't read BubbleZ's ECUs with my cable but could with FlopTop's. So the electronics on the cable are obviously critical to success but unfortunately I don't know how to verify which cable you're getting when you buy it on Amazon or eBay.
We got the same process to register a new (1st or 2nd) set of TPMS sensors. The pic attached shows what to do. The process to attach to the vehicle is the same as my previous writeup for the serial numbered based sensor registration so I didn't bother grabbing those screenshots. Here are the pop-up windows you'll see when doing a new or replacement registration. We didn't bother to actually register (or re-register) a set since we were in a restaurant parking lot and not next to an air pump at a gas station. The process requires you to deflate somewhat (15-20% - 6psi per the instructions) each tire in turn & you have only 5 minutes to do them all. That will alert the car what you've got and register the sensors, then you re-air the tires and you're good.
Here's the pic.

That's what we thought. I was surprised I couldn't see it in the TIS or reset it either. A jumper would have been handy. It was raining(ish) and we weren't thinking so clearly that we could figure out a paperclip jumper :-) Spent a couple of hours bs'ing though

Jim, I bought a cheap OBDII plug off Ebay and soldered a jumper on pins 4 - 14 and labelled it VSC Reset tool. Now I just have to plug that in anytime I need to clear that pesky Zero Calibration Error.
By the way, thanks for the great write up! I hope to be able to meet some of you guys someday too. :-)
