Anyone consider 17" wheels for a better ride?
When people change out their run-flats they usually keep the 245-40-R18 size. While
this leads to a smoother ride, it still puts the same sidewall height between the road and their
wheels. I want more sidewall for even more cushioning. Has anyone experimented with 17"
wheels and a 50 series sidewall?

With the tires already sunken in the way they are, 235-45-18s might look
too narrow. Anyone know if the bolt patterns of the sc430 are the same
as the is,es, or gs models of similar years?

IS, GS and ES have the same bolt patterns. The LS460 has euro bolt patten of 120. ES being front wheel drive might have offset that might not fit our SC very well (I'm not really sure), but I'm sure the 17" wheels with proper offset will fit our car. After all, the factory spare tire for SC is 17".

You will increase ride quality significantly by going away from the run flat tires to start with if you go to a grand touring tire like a Continental Pure Contact or Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus tire.
The added sidewall will increase your ride quality, but only by a slight margin. Unless you already had in mind to also purchase wheels, the cost probably wouldn't be worth the slight amount of added comfort you would get. There may also be some trade off with cornering stability because of the more narrow tire you would need to use.
For a 2007 SC430, I show a 17" fitment is okay. On our website, the only way to find 17" wheels is to go into the winter section of the website once you enter your year/make/model. The tire size you would use is a 225/50/17 to keep your overall diameter in check.

I would offer a 17" all day long...but for a winter package. A narrow tire with a taller profile is better for winter use. A winter package doesn't seem to be the subject, but he could do it for all season, should he want to. To put it in a rather direct manner, I wouldn't recommend it for an all-season/daily driver use. I would recommend putting a good grand touring all season tire on the factory/18" wheel.
