Default Cell Phone Advice

I just got a new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - for many reasons, not the least of which is that I am using a mobile device a LOT more and my iPhone just wasn't big enough. So, that said, I used to just plop my iPhone inside the cup holder and plug in the charger to the cigarette lighter. My problem is that the Note 3 is just WAY too big, so I figured that out of all you guys someone would have a plausible suggestion? I don't want to install some hard device - my '07 is pertty much bone stock except for the Luxlink.

Anyone?

I'm a little confused by your question. Are you asking where to mount the Note? or how to connect the note to the audio/nav system? What type of functionality are you wanting to use the Samsung to accomplish? Bluetooth, MP3, Aux, Calls, Video, Navigation, etc? Most of those features will require some additional hardware to be installed. If you're only hoping for mp3, you can use a tape adapter. It's the easier (and tackiest IMHO) fix to play music. VaisTech has an aux input adapter (SL3U) which I'm very pleased with and was incredibly easy to install (basically plug and play behind the head unit).

I think the issue that is needed to be resolved is where to comfortably stow or mount the larger Galaxy.

iPhones fit perfectly in the ash tray.

I also have a Vaistech SL3U installed. I connect a small Blackberry Bluetooth plugged into the aux input of the Vaistech in the center console so I can connect play Pandora wirelessly through my iPhone to the radio. On long trips I use Netflix Comedy Chanel, stand up comedians to listen to to pass the time.

If you are going to walk in the Galaxy Wilderness, then you will find yourself alone and forlorn until your eventual return to the Apple Promised Land of Universal iPhone Comparability.
Sincerely,

My Galaxy phones work well with the Parrott system. The screen fits nicely in the ash tray so it isnt seen unless needed. The system is totally reversible and I installed it myself. And there is even an proprietary connector if you have to use an apple product. The Galaxy's work just fine with a Bluetooth interface.

So, sorry for the confusion... but in the original post when I said: I used to just plop my iPhone inside the cup holder and plug in the charger to the cigarette lighter. My problem is that the Note 3 is just WAY too big, so I figured that out of all you guys someone would have a plausible suggestion? I don't want to install some hard device , that's what I meant.

The Galaxy Note 3 is just too big to fit in the cup holder and the question wasn't about linking it into the car... the Bluetooth works just fine and I don't care about music from the device. I just was curious to know if someone has a larger format device they use in the car a lot, where they put it? So far Ive been just using a little slice of non-slip material and laying it on the closed cup holder with the phone on top. Not the best solution. I've seen several things that all require "bolting in" or some sort of mount that frankly, looks like crap.

I know, I know... you will be assimilated, again. I've had every rendition of the iPhone and if it had a 6.5" screen I'd still have one. It's one of the downsides of being almost 60. Trust me, you will all get there sooner or later (unless you continue to tailgate people at 80 MPH, but that's another thread.)

So why not just put it in the central console upper area? I just got the Parrot but havent wired it up yet butnwith the bluetooth in my wifes car, I just leave my Iphone in my backpack. In the sc i plan to leave it in the trunk but Inwill only use it for calls.

Just helps to have it visible so I can see who is calling. I tell ya, the bluetooth in the car works great! I have to take some calls from clients, but I'd sure like the opportunity to pick and choose. This too shall work itself out. Like changing form the iPhone to the Note3!

Look for Sticky Pads on ebay or Amazon. (I would guess that they are in stores also, but I don't know where to direct you to look.) Maybe these products will resolve your issue.

Here is a Cup Holder Phone Cradle. When the inner screw is turned it expands the outer collar to fit snug in the cup holder. And it comes large enough to hold a Galaxy Note. I use something like this in my daily driver (Rav4).

It's at ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/300960402069?lpid=82
Best regards,
Dan

Thanks Dan. Exactly what I was looking for! Put in a bid on the GN3 size.

And Harold, I thought about those too but I think this is a viable solution I was looking for!

No worries 76210Guy. Whatever works best for the application is the one to go for.

Dan, That is too cool. Do they make a cup holder with that same base that will actually hold a cup or glass?
