Just disconnected battery to give a full charge because car sat for the winter and hood was propped open which killed the battery. Meanwhile I reconnected the battery and only the lights will come on. The car will not start with key in ignition. Don't know if there is a security issue or just what. HELP!!

Does the car engine crank-over (starter engage)? Did you keep your battery on a charger? How old is the battery? These are questions you must ask yourself. If no to the first two questions, I suspect you have a weak battery. If the battery is not too old try putting it on a charger until it's fully charged and then try starting your car.

If you have your owners manual please refer to the section "In Case Of An Emergency." Proceed to the section under (If Your Vehicle Will Not Start). This is a high level process or guideline if your car will not start for what could be a low battery. Hope this helps.

If your hood is open there is no voltage draw because our car does not have and engine bay light. The only switch is hood pin. If the hood is just closed and not completely down then the security system will engage and arm the car. If you were to raise the hood that would trigger the alarm to sound

I did this a few times truck not fully closed, go to start car battery to low had to jump start.

If trunk lid is left slightly open the inside lights will stay on and that will surly kill your battery in several hours

The battery sat all winter, could have frozen if not charged, probably a couple of dead cells at the least. You didn't say how old the battery is, but sounds like it is time for a new one.

If you have a volt meter, measure the battery voltage. It should be over 13 V (no load) after charging. If that is the case, turn your lights on. If the voltage drops way down, then the battery is toast. Sometimes a battery will charge up but just have no capacity and needs to be replaced.
