Fuel filler cap loose??
I just fueled up my SC 430 for the first time on Monday and the Malfunction light will not go out. I have loosened the cap and tightened the cap several times, but it still doesn't affect it.
My wife had a minivan a few years ago which would occassionally do this, but it usually went away after driving for 50 miles or so.
I searched the forum and can't find where anyone has had this issue. Can it be coincidence that there is some malfunction other than with the fuel cap? The car runs perfect. Hate to drive down to the dealer if there is something stupid I am missing.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp
Page 44 of the manual describes this.
It is a yellow lamp which says check engine. The primary causes seem to be fuel related and it came on immediately (as soon as I left the station) upon filling up.
No amount of clicks seem to affect it.
Since no one seems to have heard of this, I will be calling the dealer this AM.
Thanks.

Problem found!
I feel stupid replying to my own post, but here is the deal:
If you fill your car up and leave the motor running (it was quite cold and my wife was in the car warming up), the yellow light comes on. (it is an emmissions thing...)
Dealer says that after 40-50 manual starts (I better get cranking), it will go out. Or I can swing by and they will reset this switch.
Would have been nice to put that in the manual!!
Thanks.

Filling up with your car running!!!
I'm sorry but I've got to say it:
Why were you filling up your car with the engine on?!?
Hey, the SC has heated seats, keep the key turned to accessory and let your wife bake on the seat. (I know someone's going to tell me how much battery drainage that causes.)
I hope folks don't regularly fill up with their car turned on!
That little yellow light will stay on for those 40-50 starts to remind you that you did an unsafe thing!!!
Be safe!

Shut up everybody.......
Here's what to do:
Don't disconnect any batteries, don't go to the dealer, don't have them re set anything.
Ignore the light and after about 2 or 3 more fill ups the light will go out. With all the sensors in this car, it just takes a bit of time to re initiate.
Oh yeah, and keep the enging running when you fill up if that's what you want. In fact, light up a smoke as well !

huh
I've filled my sc430 with the engine running numerous times (lost count actually).... especially when it was really hot outside and I wanted to sit with the a/c runnin (grin)...
Anyway, I NEVER got that warning light.... but I don't top off the tank either.. when the pump stops, I'm done!

Thanks!
Thanks, CE!
I didn't want to say how many times I have filled my tank with the engine running...
I spent time building service stations over the years and between vapor recovery systems and the new fire suppression systems (to say nothing of modern car designs), you are more like to get blown up by your gas furnace than filling up your car with the motor running.
That said, I have re-attached my SpeedPass to the key so that I won't have to stare at the yellow light again!

Go to the dealer and tell them about the loose gas cap. They will hook up the scan tool and check for code, most likely it will be P0440 ( Evaporative systme malfunction). They will clear it for you. Disconnect battery or 50 cycles thing will not help because the memory already stored in the ECM.

Just pull the ECU fuse. Used to do it all the time in my Supra, for some reason the catalytic converters fell off the car, dont ask me how though. The 0-2 sensor used to come on all the time, pop the hood take out the fuse and violia.
