Good (unstated) point, though. I may have loosened that connection.
I'll check that.
I wasn't thinking that was the cause, because I assumed the buttons were attached to it (and they work).

I took the unit back out and the ribbon cable wasn't unseated, but I re-connected it anyway.
No luck. The display is still out.
In addition, the player door will open, but it won't close.
I expect these are related.
My last DIY attempt will be to reset the ECU (either by process or disconnecting the battery.
Any other thoughts?

I just tried the 'push and hold the eject button, hit the dash above' technique. It worked. The changer in my 2008 RX350 spit out all three cd's and it's working fine. I might add that I went to the lexus dealer and they took two hours to arrive at the conclusion that it needed to be replaced. New radio: $1,500, or send it in and get a rebuilt replacement - about $300. I'm a happy camper and I will probably get the kit installed to play my ipod so that the next time this happens I will have cheaper alternatives

I'd like to throw in my two cents worth on this issue. Two days ago my changer on my car jammed after changing from cd location 3 to 4. Not knowing what to do after hearing a continuous grinding noise, I tried to turn off the audio system but it persisted for a few seconds more until the noise went away. Afterwards, I tried various techniques to stop the reoccurring noise by pressing the eject button, pressing the change disc button to no avail. Finally while the grinding noise was going on, I used the palm of my hand and slapped hard the right side wall near the auto system (passenger side wall) and the audio system was fixed. I proceeded then to remove all the 6 discs from the changer without anymore issues. I then inserted only one disc and it played well. I will now only use one disc at a time for now and see how it works out over time. One thing that can't happen is a jammed disc, since it will not change to another disc. The only way it can jam is if I insert or remove the lone disc. One thing that I did learn in all of this is if you push and hold the eject button, the display will read "Eject all Discs." I guess if you want to eject all your discs at once, this is the most efficient way to do it.

The EJECT ALL DISCS got me in trouble. 1 push of that option, the CD player was dead. hence I installed the Vaistech Adapter. Goodbye CD's.

Jammed CD's
My CD player (Mark Levinson model) was working fine until last night. I tried playing a friend's homemade CD without knowing that a label on it might throw the player out of whack. After that, I couldn't get my regular CD's to load, or after loading, couldn't get them to eject. I tried turning the car off and then back on and that worked ... temporarily. I tried the banging routine, the holding both buttons routine, etc., and nothing worked. Then I tried removing the #19, 25 and 29 fuses (after the car was turned off) and then starting the car without them. I then reinserted them and started the car ... so far everything seems back to normal! I think removing the fuses and starting the car and then replacing them rebooted the whole system. Anyway, I just thought I'd pass the info along. If anything changes, I'll let you know. Good luck!

Death Sentence
Using CD's with adhesive labels is a death sentence for the player. Those labels will over time separate and get jammed in the player. I use ink printable CD's only and that allows me to print the graphics right on the surface of the disc. I would imagine It is just a matter of time in your situation the player will jam again because of the label debris. Best thing to do is remove the player if it jams again and open it up to clean it out .

My CD changer got an "error 3" massage after I changed to a new car battery. I have not used the audio for a while and I do have CDs in there. There is one CD in the slot and the door was half opened after new battery was connected. I don't know why and how.
After all the banging and lots of cussing, I finally gave up and fetched the CD out, but the massage was still there and it wouldn't reset even after I disconnect and reconnect the battery.
Took the CD/Radio out of the car and went to Factory Radio Service which happened to be 3 minutes from my house. They said that they have seen these happened all the time and there is a small plastic part that overtimes, through hot and cold would finally break off.
So the repair bill comes out to $300. YES!! $300 just to changed out a small plastic wheel that cost maybe $2. But hey, I guess that's why they are specialists. While I was there, I saw maybe 10 -12 Lexus audio unit there that came from our local Lexus dealer in Plano, TX. I guess they use his service as well...
I know I may have overpay for a simple repair but I'm glad to have this resolved. I was also told that lot's of people would try to jam another CD into the slot to get the jammed CD out..Don't do it, it can break that little plastic wheel. Tried to close the door manually..Don't do it, it can break the wheel.
When you have a jammed CD in there, fetch it out and make sure you don't push the jammed CD in with force, disconnect the battery and get a person to help you by pressing the LOAD button while you reconnect the battery, that should cycle the changer to LOAD CD and become normal or functional again.
