AFS OFF warning light
When I picked up my '06 SC from the body shop the AFS OFF light was illuminated on the dash. I had to pull out my owners manual and look it up. The first page I found says: "Indicates a malfunction in: 1) The adaptive front lighting system; or 2) The automatic headlight leveling system if the light flashes."
Well, since I know that the body shop had the battery disconnected I suspected that they threw a trouble code putting it back on. I dug around to find out how to clear the AFS OFF code and most said it required the dealer to reset it. I reset the ECU but it didn't clear the trouble code.
I then went back to the manual and found another page that clearly shows the AFS switch located down with the hood, trunk and gas release buttons.
They had pushed the AFS OFF button while they were fishing around for the trunk or hood release. Problem solved, whew!

Funny, I had the battery replaced on my wife's SC the other day and the exact same thing happened after replacement of the battery, the AFS OFF light illuminated on the dash. I struggled to figure out how it became illuminated and even searched for codes. Exactly like you've said, the AFS OFF button is located near the trunk release and also located near the OBD2 scanner input. The person from Triple A who replaced the battery inadvertently hit the AFS OFF button, glad it's resolved.

Thats funny, I remember when I bought mine that light was on and after some googling I realized I just needed to press the button, lol.

Thanks. That is the system that used to creak when someone got into the passenger side of my car. The sound came from right under the driver's side door hinge (in case anyone has a mystery creak)
