Default ECT- Power or normal

I was sort of curious if most of the members drove with ECT on in power position or normal? I wonder if I drive in power position if it would reduce my gas milage. Think in power position it increases performance much?

Why don't you use the search button and find the gigantic thread about the same topic in the SC300/SC400 forum? I'm not trying to be rude; it really is a good thread to read if you are curious about other members.

I don't see the search tool anymore. What's up with that? Now it's back again??

The mechanic at Lexus told me that the ECT mode causes the torque converter to slip more creating a smoother ride. Which means the POWER mode slips less, better performance and gas mileage.

Read all the previous threads on this subject however one question remains(actually 2) If car is more responsive(peppy) in the power mode and there is no downside apparently in using power mode , why would anyone drive in the non power mode and why would Lexus even make a non power mode an option?

some people prefer smoother, albeit slower, acceleration.

Any gain in 'peppiness' will have to be paid for in gas $$. That's the main reason I think users would not just leave it in PWR setting.

Now here, where a blizzard has set in and stayed for the past five days, the SNOW button seems more logical. Other than the fact that our SC430's don't leave the garage in this weather. I wonder who ever thought of putting a SNOW button there. :-)

And MUCH quieter since lower RPMs due to selecting higher gear.

In speed timing comparisons I noticed absolutely no difference in acceleration in any of my Lexus's with this at WOT. My 1/8 mile and 1/4 times were always within each other.
While cruising around the street the shifts occur at less RPM but it is no smoother vs power mode and no difference in MPG was noticed. I keep it in power all of the time now.

I usually drive my car with regular mode. Keep the VSC on. There is no need to turn it off when you're doing regular driving.

Why would you turn off VSC during normal driving? It doesn't interfere unless you're skidding.

Unless it is raining, I always turn on off my VSC,

I absolutely hate it when I come to stomp on it and that stupid light goes on and sends the car into limp mode.

Plus the associated danger of having your car lose all power while trying to dart into traffic onto a busy street during rush hour.
