Default 92 SC Manual Conv. help!! Toronto, ON Canada

So after owning my SC400 for some time now I have decided that I need to have a 5 speed manual in this car, the automatic is great and all but I just need to row my own gears. I have heard about how its a pricey swap and a hard one to do.

Ive already been told to sell the car and buy a new car with a stock manual transmission like a 240sx or an SC300, but that's just not an option due to the sentimental value of this car, as I plan on never selling it.

I also do not plan on doing any of the work myself, I am not mechanically inclined when it comes to cars and I would not trust myself working on my SC400.

So, now to the point of my post:
I need help finding a shop that would do this in the Toronto area, pretty much anywhere in the GTA. If anyone could recommend a few good reliable mechanics shops which are capable of doing this swap for me, which would include sourcing all the parts, and doing all the work then please let me know!!! I am very serious about this swap and hope to have it done well.

My budget is 3,500 - 4,500$ which I hope could include parts and labor.

Also, anyone who lives in Toronto and has done this swap before then please let me know about which shop you have used and can recommend!

Thank you for any help, anything is appreciated!!

I don't know any shop that would collect all the parts for you without hitting you hard in the pocket for that. I'd suggest you read up like crazy on swap threads, and at least source all of your parts yourself and take them to the shop for installation. You can find complete/semi complete swaps here in the classifieds. The education process will insure that you have good, proper parts and don't get beat on labor.

at the very least you can gather all the parts, maybe try the swap yourself?

also here is a rundown:

Toyota Supra transmissions: W58, R154, V160
Nissan Transmissions: 350z 6 speed, 240sx 5 speed
Chevrolet: T56
BMW from a 5 series?

any of those transmissions will do.

The transmission I am looking at is most likely a Nissan KA transmission, since its cheap and easy to come by in-case I break it. I saw a '97 SC for sale with a 5-speed KA transmission in Toronto a little while back, he wouldn't respond with any info on how he did it though.

The actual transmission itself should be easy to find, the problem is finding the parts I need to bolt it to the 1UZFE, allot of which are probably going to be custom.

It will be harder to find a shop that has experience with 1UZ to Nissan I'd guess. I have not found one in NYC yet. At least W58 came on the Sc. It takes very little figuring out at this point. People are still trying to find out how to make the speedo work after the swap.

Wow! Thanks for that link to the adapter plate, that will be very helpful if I choose the Nissan transmission route. I guess it all comes down to my budget about which transmission I choose, do you think 3,500-4,500$ is realistic for this modification? Including parts and labor.

If you buy all the adapter parts and the transmission the shop should have a bolt in affair.

If you choose a Toyota transmission.

No, Nissan transmission as well, if you have all the parts already purchased or made.
