I'm a fan of the stock 97 body dropped on wheels so that's why I got a 97. To mod a pre 97 to look like a 97 would cost more than to just buy a 97 and also the 97+ generally are in better condition. 97 has higher hp rating for the 400's and also the dash shows mpg, temp, and all that "newer" car stuff. If I wanted to build a race car it wouldn't matter what year or how it looked so a dead 92 for $500 would be ideal but that's not me.
Personally, I think the 1st. generation looks a little more aggressive, out of the box. A stock '97+ looks like the driver should wear a sweater tied over his shoulders.
