SC400 5speed question regarding ECU
To my knowledge, none of the SC400 came in manual, so what do we do in regards to the ECU?
Coming from Nissan, I understand that the auto ecu can run with the manual swap, but is it the same with Lexus?
I am currently gathering parts for a 98 1UZ VVTI to Z33 gearbox.
List:
3SGTE flywheel + pilot bearing adapter
Any Nissan PP/disc.
pedals, master, lines
Z33 transmission + shortened shifter linkage
Drive shaft + custom transmission mount
Bellhousing adapter
Am I missing anything?

If you don't know this isnt a toyota transmission, its from a nissan 350z.^^
OP, I have been wondering this same question too for a while, ill try and look into what others have posted about ECU's and etc. I have been wanting to throw a ka24 tranny in mine for awhile now.

Honestly whenever someone does a 5 speed swap they never really talk about the ECU.
anyways if this may be of anyhelp heres a wiring thread, thre might be some useful info in there for you.

One of the guys just finished up his 5spd swap in his LS not too long ago. He used a Nissan trans, and as far as I know he hasn't done anything with the ecu. He's even taken the car to a couple drift events already.
On a side note, his car is NOT a vvti car. Not sure if that would matter or not?
I'm currently gathering parts for my swap in my LS also. I'm planning a W58 or R154 but these Nissan transmissions are cheap and easy to get ahold of.

You can run a manual trans off an auto Ecu. You don't have to do anything Ecu wise except the neutral wiring stuff on the trans plug to get it to start I want to say cause yours is a factory auto.
There is not any other option is why no one mentions it Ecu wise, it's not plug and play to go standalone on a 400 and the auto one works.
I'm using an auto 2jzgte Ecu on my factory 5spd so I didn't have to do the nss bypass. It will work fine but is a little delayed if you are cruising and the punch it, the delay is a little less than it takes for an actual auto kicking down. If you are accelerating fast already or from a stop then I don't notice any delay it only seems to happen in transition.

There are some solutions for manual ECUs from the UK, Australia and NZ but not "factory V8 5-speed manual" ECU.
Not sure if any of these work with EGR or other emissions gear if you need that.
Edit: The ability to retune with one of these aftermarket ECU's for manual transmission use appears to be incidental but given that they are all programmable I don't see why you couldn't eliminate CELs or forget about engine maps that are looking for shift solenoid signals.
The Adaptronic 420C ECU - http://www.adaptronic.com.au/ecus/
Link ECU - http://www.linkecu.com
And Especially the Wolf V500 Ecu - www.wolfems.com.au

I've been tossing the idea of swapping a R154 into my '99 SC400 for a few months now, and I havent thought that this might be an issue. There's 1 guy on the forum that I know of thats successfully swapped a W58 into his '98 SC400, and I believe he said there was a slight hesitation when shifting in low gears - but it does work.
Here's the thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...-finished.html
..unfortunately there hasnt been any updates as to the specifics of the swap, but hopefully it gives you an idea.

Anyways.. I understand that the earlier models (non VVTI) may be less of a headache than the VVTI models due to the "added features" of VVTI.
I have seen a one or two 2JZ - Z33 transmission swaps, but none mentions the ECU or they're running a standalone EMS.
I know that there's no problem with going manual on an auto car on Nissans... I was just wondering if the VVTI poses a problem. On both the 98+ SC300 or SC400, as I just picked up the SC300.

Using the 98-00 Auto ECU (300 or 400) you should follow Cartmill's threads regarding how he eliminated the CEL light. Primarily this had to do with removing the shift solenoids from his automatic transmission, securing them on the car while still plugged in to the harness and allowing them to operate independently so that the ECU gets the signals it wants from the "automatic transmission". There is a lot more to it but that's the gist if you have a 98+.
