Looking into different Gauge Cluster options, what's your opinion.
Hi folks,
I've run into the common, "lights out "issue with my gauge cluster. I wanted to see what options there are to fix it and which is the best one in your guys recommend.
I really don't want anything fancy, OEM is actually just fine. Just annoyed I can't see any gauges with out a flashlight in my car
You can probably just buy the OEM bulb for each light that is blown. I'm sure their is a DIY for this somewhere
I was originally gonna do that until I started to take apart a junkyard cluster and I noticed how complicated the inside was versus like a 90's Nissan, Honda etc.
I looked at some repair deals on eBay. And I saw some link for some other sites. I was mainly shooting for different opinions from some veterans on here.
I used Lextech. It takes them a little while to do the work (seemed like forever to me!) and get you the cluster back but it works flawlessly now.
On a related note. Anyone know if the 5 speed SC300 cluster will work on an SC400 with a manual conversion?
Are we talking like week or month. I saw lextech is across the United States, the quality looks good, was kinda hoping of a closer repair place like in San Diego or LA.

Not sure if this helps or related, I had a SC400 cluster in my old SC300. The tach seems to rev higher than it actually is, and speed also shows 5-10 MPH faster than what car's actually doing.
I have seen people selling needles online and such, can one just switch it out?
Or do we need the Zoo Giraffe?
Anyone can replace the bulbs and needles. The needles can be replaced by removing 8 screws around the perimeter of the cluster. You will need to remove the cluster first of course. The needles simply slide off and back on. Here's the issue though, 92-94 needles will only light on 92-94 clusters. 95-96 needles will only light on 95-96 clusters, and 97+ will only light on 97+ clusters.
Lextech sells all four needles for $99 I believe. You can just buy a set of random unlit needles and Lextech will make sure they illuminate with LED's. The backlighting can be fixed with simple bulbs or LED bulbs. You can replace them yourself of course. That way you have limited downtime.
