as far as i know the wood grain is plastic and near as far as your going to do is pull it all off and polish it with buffing compound or grab some 3k grit sand paper and buff it down with water.... then take a high grit low speed polishing compund and put a shine back on it then let it dry and clear coat it....

I was about to say...
Lexus spent so much money on advertising it's interiors back in the day
Especialy when it was competing with the Infiniti Q45's interior which had the marble inlay
No way is it fake....

I would remove it, sand it down, and reapply some clear laquer.
I thought about taking some veneer and laying it over and then adding clear.
Any furniture make can do this for you

The wood in finished with a polyurathane varnish. If you want to redo it, you must treat it accordingly. Remove the panels, use varnish remover to remove the varnish, sand and then bleach the wood. This will remove the stain and will be necessary if the current stain is now different color on some of the panels. Then you can apply a new stain of your choice and then revarnish.

Thanks for your help. It looks as if the wood was sun-faded.

i restored the woodgrain panels on a van, just remove the panels and sand them with a palmsander, first with 600 grit and move up to a finer grit about 1000 and then 1500 . after sanding use a tac cloth to remove any dust on the panels and then stain or just use polyurethane (several coats) and sand with 1500 in between each layer of poly. and then enjoy that new beautiful finish .
