1jz or 1jz vvti?

Buying a 1JZ because you didn't want to spend extra for a 2JZ is a fair point. I would say the cost of basic performance upgrades (exhaust, intake, intercooler, boost controller, injectors, cut eliminators, fuel pump) make the difference in cost between the 1JZ and the 2JZ look minuscule and the advantages gigantic. I know a person who has a 1JZ swapped SC and he is going to sell the 1JZ for a 2JZ. Post swap it still makes sense economically to buy a 2jz-gte.

Great point, but how many members bought a 1jz because they did not want to spend the extra for a 2jz. And out of those 1jz members build their motor. Now if they kept the bottom end they would yield more power than what they have. Plus they could also take time and build it to be better than the slap on job we were debating. Thus leading us to why the 1.5jz is a great idea and cost effective

Just realized how old this thread is, nevermind.
I has said.. vvti = better spool. if you don't care about spool then go non-vvti. You will have to deal with finding a much older motor though that doesn't need a full rebuild, and also the cost of a single kit which most will have a blown turbo soon enough and will need.
the vvti you can drop in and use as is but is more complicated wiring. I have heard from people that have owned cars that are 1jz non vvti and cars that are 1jz vvti that the vvti is much more fun to drive.
