Hey so I just picked up an SC400. 88K on the clock, good running condition. The problems are that the mirror seems like its always dark, as in it doesn't un-dim. The tilt function on the steering wheel does not work. The motor doesn't make sound or anything. Is there a common fuse or solution, I looked and searched on the forum but nothing specific to my issue.

also it reeks of gas in my cabin and trunk. I tried to remove the charcoal canister but it won't come out...? If i do take it out will it eliminate the gas smell indefinitely?

When I bought my car a few months ago, I had 2 of your 3 problems,Gas smell and the tilt that don't move. The gas smell was I found a scew drilled into the tank (no idea why) and the motor in the tilt came of the the gears (easy fix). If your not hearing nothing at all check all the fuses there is also a fuse box under the hood too

The gas smell comes from the tank itself. You might have a hole or a leak. There are methods of finding it. The mirror needs to be replaced. The tilt steering requires you to turn the wheel itself 90 degrees to reveal the screw heads. Remove them and the bottom ones on the cover then pull the two pieces apart. It helps a lot if the wheel is extended out all the way. Remove the screws and plate on the left and put spacers(washers) between the blue gear. You will need to search 'Tilt Steering Repair' in the DIY merged forums section. A trip to the Home Depot for the washers as well.

thanks a l ot guys, i love this forum. I've been a part of others with my previous cars but this is such an extensive knowledge base.

anyways the gas was cause the breather valve in the trunk wasnt hooked up. I read that DIY on the blue wheel but my column doesnt make any noise when i use the tilt, so im assuming its the motor, FML. New mirror on order.
