Would this SC300 be worth it?
Well, I was driving around, as usual, and I spot a car for sale on corner. It is a 1992 Lexus SC300, a car I have wanted for some time. Well, the thing is fairly butt looking, and the inside door handles are broken. It apartently belongs to a kid, because of all the Matix stickers and the "Yo!" voice message greeting. I think the only reason I even thought about it because the asking price is $850. It runs, excellent says the ad. I havent got much info on it, since the guy did not answer. I was thinking about getting this and selling the Corolla for $800. Pictures.

If you're looking for something to drive out the gate nah. Seems like a decent project car though, so my vote would be yes on the grounds that its cheap and for $850 you really can't go wrong as far as a project is concerned.

I just talked to the seller. It has 324K miles. Ah. Also, things like the power steering, a/c, heater, do not work. It is a true testament of time that it still "runs", but it would be way too much stuff to fix to make it habitable. Because the motor may go south, but what about everything else, like the suspension, etc? If I had a little more starting money,I would go for it, or if I was going to turn it into a strictly drifting car, but I'll pass. It's in the Antelope Valley, 60mi north of Los Angeles, I'll give someone the contact info in a PM if you want it.

I think an important factor is going to be how much of a budget you have for a "fully running car". If you're going to completely mod it to hell and do engine swaps, body kits, etc., this is the way to go, but if you're looking to spend 3k-4k total, I would suggest looking for a car that is in better condition. Fixing all those items is going to be very costly and you have to make sure your can ration enough funds to complete it and get it to the point where it is reliable and you feel safe driving it.

I agree ^ get it if you don't expect to drive it for a LONG time. It's basically a rolling chassis, since you'll have to do a complete rebuild from the ground up.
I'd pay $850 for an unbent frame. Get it........if you're ready for a project. Can't beat the price. But you get what you pay for. It's worth $850 in parts if it comes to that.

In short, I'd say no. Here's why ...
If you have to daily drive the car and don't have ~$2k to spend on "what might happen" in the next few weeks/months, then I'd say no.
If you have the spare cash to pick it up and work on things from time to time and won't be "in a bind" if you can't drive it for a week or 2 at a time, then by all means, grab it and put together a good rehab plan.
