Glad it was helpful, Ezroni. I think I offered too much information on one model but I stand by the Prelude (one in good shape) as one among many decent used options for a simple fun DD. But there are many good suggestions in this thread!
Potholes on the very bad sections of road in L.A. sound about the same. The lowering affects the suspension travel and thus ability to absorb those imperfections but your dampening characteristics and spring rates have a lot to do with it too. I recall reading that the Z30 Soarer/SC's suspension design, while geared for luxury in both markets, was centered around taking advantage of the 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension's ability to handle road imperfections while using softer spring rates. The OEM shocks dialed up the body roll for the USA models but changing those and still allowing for non-harsh spring rates is supposed to be the best all around balance. But that's also a design philosophy from 1990 and we have so many options now
^^ The 1998-2000 LS400 and 2001-(????) LS430 are both great all-around cruisers. Can't go wrong with them.
tbh i don't drive much on the weekdays to work (~14 miles per day M-F) but the areas i drive in have some pretty nasty potholes and uneven pavement that i grit my teeth every time i pass/drive over. yes it's my fault for driving a lowered car/stretched tires but hey, i enjoy it on the weekends and that's all that matters

Nope, that's the truth. The Prelude series always used its own chassis from the first generation in 1978 until the very last one. The design philosophy and R&D process was very similar to all the sporty Hondas made during those years, especially in the 1990's but there was nothing directly shared with the Acura/Honda Integra. That car actually had much more in common with the Civic series of the same era from engines to transmissions to some suspension parts (depending on specific model years). The 1997-2001(?) Acura Integra Type R and it's GS-R counterpart were not at all related to Preludes unless you count some shared panel switches.
The Prelude had some shared engines in common with the USA Accord until 1996 (2.0L engines and 2.3L engines only) and also shared its H22A 190-200hp engine with the top-line 1994-1997 Euro/JDM Accord SiR we never got until the 1st gen Acura TSX 200hp 6-speed manual was released (which was actually a JDM/Euro Accord with a K20A 2.0L engine and Acura's response to the Lexus IS300/Altezza).
The only notable 5th gen Preludes only Japan got during the last years was an H22A version with 4WS, another H22A variant with a helical LSD ("SiR Spec-S") and a "Type S" model with the 217hp/163ft-lb version of the H22A which was ATTS-only and had "Active ABS" and no sunroof. Oh, and in overseas markets (and Canada I think) it was possible to order these cars without sunroofs. All 1997-2001 USA models came with sunroofs like them or not. That Type S was a last hurrah for the H22 series.
