SC400 - AC Suddenly shuts down.
Hello all,
Today we were cruising along in 90 degree heat. The air conditioning was cooling us nicely as she always does. Then, suddenly, we lost all power to the AC system. The fan shut down and there was no power to the AC control panel. The first thought through my mind is that it is a simple fuse that has blown.
Well we get home and I pull the two fuses that are showing to affect AC:
1. 10A fuse labeled as HTR
2. 10A fuse labeled as DOME
Both were fine. Not blown.
I then start wondering if the relay that is labeled as HTR, located in the engine compartment fuse block might be the issue. How would I test this relay?
Or is there somewhere else I should look to troubleshoot this AC power issue?
Thanks all,
W

Did you check the 15amp fuse labeled Cig? It feeds the system also. 7.5amp Panel also feeds it, but I think for only the back lighting not sure. Take a test light and check you have power at both sides of the 10amp Heater fuse (you can check the back of the fuse while it is plugged in). That is the usual culprit so you are on the right track. What year are we dealing with here?
I recently had a problem with my a/c clutch bearing going out and it spun on the housing and rubbed the magnetic clutch and shorted it out, blowing the 10amp heater fuse and giving the same symptom but there are several things that can do it.

Rodger,
Thanks for your input. We are dealing with a 93 model.
I have not checked the CIG fuse. Nor have I checked volts on the fuses. That is all next.
what has me worried is that there is some wetness due to a streering leak in the area of the compressor. I'm getting that cleaned up as well.
thanks,
W
