Default trying to track down the part # for VSS#2 - 95 SC3

Hey everyone,

I've been searching for a while and all the threads I've found haven't been as helpful as I had hoped.

I have a 95 SC300, and it is throwing transmission code 61, for Speed Sensor #2. It often gets the flashing OD/OFF light, but restarting the car will usually clear it. Also, it occasionally stops flashing after driving for a while (but not always).

The speedometer, odometer and cruise all work fine.

I am trying to track down the actual part number so that I know what to get to replace it with. I have seen what appear to be two different speed sensors in various places online, but no indication of which is which.

I called my local Lexus dealer for help and the parts guy gave me an incomplete number: 845230010. He also quoted the price for it as $328, but I'm fairly certain that the part can be found for much less from other part distributors/sellers.

I know this part has been an issue for many of you, so I'm hoping that someone who has fixed this same issue knows what the part # is.

Thanks

Dude,

Check out this RockAuto link. I don't know if #2 refers to input or output, but there's a variety of OEM numbers listed along with the third parties' individual parts numbers; you should be able to figure it out easily.

Thanks for the link. It looks like I was right about the prices being less (every single possible VSS there is significantly less) than the dealership.

However, it still isn't clear which sensor is which and I still don't know which one I actually need.

The 1995 SC300 only has 1 speed sensor on the transmission and it is part # 89413-08020

List price about $132.00 for the sensor

Dudes,

Assuming 8941308020 is the correct part number, it's reasonably priced here for the official OEM version...

http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com/oe-toyota/8941308020

Dorman lists their version, part #917603, which appears to be the same AISIN-manufactured part, for about $20.00 cheaper on the RockAuto site I linked previously.
