So, in doing the starter on my 98 SC400 I have to remove the intake. I've seen a few opinions both ways of re-using the intake manifold gasket. Everything official seems to say change, but some forum people seemed to say reuse.

What say ye? Are there certain years that are reusable and some not?

I reused mine when I did the injectors. They looked borderline but I haven't had any vacuum issues. I did order new gaskets after that for the next time I have it off, though, just to be safe. I believe it was Ali SC3 who offered up the sound advice of basing the decision on whether the paint is flaking off the metal gasket. If not, it should be fine to re-use.

I'd say it's all on you. If you look at it and you feel like reusable then reuse it, but if it's seen better days pick up another.

Replace, never reuse. The small cost is not worth the chance that you have to redo. It's like when you change the time timing belt...Always change the water pump.
