The price all depends on what you as a buyer are willing to pay.

There is a 98 SC400 on Autotrader for $16K right now; 71K miles. It is black on black and looks completely stock with the Nakamichi audio. All options including factory chrome wheels; no seat heaters though. Black interiors were rare so the Darth Vader look of all black is commanding that kind of pricing. It also has Michelin Pilot tires on it that shows that the previous owner took pride in ownership and did not go with some ghetto brand X of tire.

Is this car priced high for a 17 year old car? yes

Is there any new 2015 car for $16K that can match what this 17 year old car offers? HELL NO

That said, this is on the higher end of what you will pay for a 98+ SC. You can find a great one for under $10K if you are patient. As with any car, don't try to be smart by saving a few bucks to buy someone's problems thinking you will "fix it up" and come out ahead. Walk away from any car with issues other than stuff like paint chips on the nose, a few lines in the leather, a dent here and there, etc.

The $16K SC is this one;

I went to the dealership earlier today and saw the car, Exterior is 6/10 and interior is 7/10. The paint on the trunk lid is peeling and the seats are cracking in a few places. It's also a 300 which sucks, Here's the link.

Well, I drove a 1999 SC400 the other day, WOW was it slow, sure the engine had power but it spent most of its time shifting in and out of gears, it has to be one of the slowest auto transmissions I have ever driven. I found a decent condition SC300 with absurdly low miles, I am actually going to go pick it up tomorrow, I have been giving it a lot of thought, the 300 responds quicker, which I am actually more a fan of. More than that though, is that I have always really wanted to do an Aristo 2JZ-GTE swap, basically turn it into an auto Supra with either stock OE Turbo's or go a 67mm turbo someday. Either way, I am looking forward to getting the car, it's very clean

I bought a 98 400 with 120k on it for $6000 (listed for 7) almost 2 months ago. The burgundy exterior was very good, with only some dull-ing on the drivers front quarter (gold emblems were even in good shape.) Interior was great with just a few stain spots on the passenger carpet and a wear spot on the left bolstering of the driver's seat (in and our wear), though not through the leather. The stereo had been replaced with an aftermarket Double-Din DVD receiver, so the sub didn't work. An afternoon of pulling the no-longer functioning CD Changer and installing an amp in its place fixed that.

It was a great deal 'till the starter died last week. (click 'o death, half the reason I'm here, now; research.)

Even then, it's not a bad deal, just more like a $7000 car than $6000. I also assume it'll need a timing belt, but I qualify that more as standard maintenance than the starter.

Exclamation One Owner 1998 SC300 in NC

This spring I purchased a one owner SC300 with 83k miles and a clean CarFax.
Interior and exterior look nicer than most one year old cars.
As part of the deal a local foreign service center did a full timing belt, water pump, cam seals, and serpentine belt.
It needed new tires since the ones on the car had dry-rotted.
I paid $7,200 in North Carolina
Some say I over paid, but I have already had someone offer me $8,500 for the car.

Picked up the SC300 yesterday, boy is this thing great! It is so clean, I mean almost as clean as my IS350, save for a little wear on the driver side (no rips or tears, just some creasing). Anyway, I counted ONE ding on the entire car, not one door ding, no large scratches, I was very surprised when I went to pick it up, it has 116k miles on it, everything works, engine is smooth and powerful, hard to tell the difference between it and the SC400 (due to the SC400 shifting SO slowly, even in "POWER" mode). I am totally in love with this car, I got it for $3400 and it is as close to "time-capsule" condition as I would ever want, if it any cleaner it would be a museum piece

.
Was that the one in Vancouver? That one looked great
