I bought mine for $4200 and it needed a tiny bit of TLC and some maintenance work, but the body is practically flawless.
Common major issue is the crank pulley, they don't last.
Make sure sure you also replace the timing belt at least if you buy one, they are often neglected.

not to be a ****, but for 2300 you will either have to wait and be extremely picky to get a nice well kept sc for around that price. If you just jump into one you can afford now it will likely be a 92-96ish car. without maintenance the 17-21 year old..well everything will start to die. Also this is not a car to try to maintain working part time. despite the age the parts will drain an account in short order.
I am sure youd love the sc, but honestly I would save a bit more and get a nice, clean, well maintained sc for 35-4500. the initial price seems high for the old cars, but a project sc that runs you 1800 takes another 1800+ to restore mechanically if you are doing your own work.

welcome to clublexus. i recently bought my very own 92 sc300. i am in love. i stare at it in utter amazement every time i get out of it. i got it for 2300 in horrid condition. the starter was so close to going out. the passenger door didnt open from the outside. dents in a couple places. fan shroud was literally hanging by coat hangers. rear brakes were shot. radio turns on when it wants to. power steerings out... but guess what, i loved it. and still do.
i have been putting work into it little by little. i have barely owned it since january 29th 2013. needless to say i payed a little too much for it. i should've gotten it for 2000.
i dont have a steady job so i dont have steady money, hell i can barely afford to fill the gas tank ever. but slowly im fixing it. if i were you i would save up at least a good 3000 and buy one that isnt perfect, but doesnt give you trouble. make sure its enough to get you from point a to point b without hesitations, and both doors open, and everything is intact. a comfortable ride.
