Question Power window / sunroof problems

Hi all, today I noticed my window and sunroof will no longer operate after key is removed from ignition and drivers door is opened. This used to work ( saved u from having to put the ignition back on to wind up windows or close the roof ) but since having an alarm fitted its ceased working. The windows and roof will operate as normal when ignition is on.
Anyone have any ideas on where to look?

cheers!
Cliff

Cliff,

Welcome to ClubLexus!

I have a 92 SC400 and although the windows, radio, and such work after you remove the key for a time, they have always stopped working if either door is opened. I'm not sure if this changed over the years. Are you sure they used to work after the door was opened?

Yeah im positive. They would only operate after the key was removed and drivers door opened. Once door was closed and opened again then they wouldnt work. Only the 1st time the door was open with key removed is the only time it would work.. It was a feature of the car, just incase u forgot to wind up your window it gave u a chance to do so.

I agreed, ignition off without open the door window and sunroof will work a about 5 minutes. If you turn off the ignition and have any of those windows or roof crack open without open the door and you still sit in the car. About five minute later the car will beep to let you know that the window and roof will not have electricity to it at that time. If you take the ignition off and opent the door the power to the windw and roof will turn off. That's what my 93 does and I don't think that changed.

Default I agree

Mine is a '95 and you get about 3-5 minutes to roll up window and close roof before it shuts those operations down. However if you open either door first it shut-off right away.

On my '95 SC400, the windows stop working the moment you open the door. I don't remember if I lost this feature when I installed my alarm system because that was a while ago.

What kind of alarm system did you buy? If it was a decent one, the manufacturer probably makes an auxiliary window control module that redresses that malfunction. I know that Clifford makes a smart window module that has one-touch windows up, one-touch windows down, and programmablity for window vent (window can drop down one or two inches to vent air).

Well guys got it al sorted out tonight. The people that installed the alarm system had cut the power lead going to the original central locking ECU. Restored the power to the door ECU and hey presto! back to normal again.
Mines a '93 TT GTL and this is how mine works: - turn ignition off, remove key, no power to door window or sun roof. Open drivers door then power is available to sunroof and windows only for a short period of time. There are a few people on the other forums ( UK AND AUS ) that have the same feature as mine.

Thanks for your replies!
cheers!

4Runners are the same way. In fact, I think most Toyota products are like that.
