Armrest cover replacement
I've searched for a DIY on this site, but nothing relevant comes up. 1996 SC300. I am replacing the leather armrest cover, but am having trouble removing the lid from the console. I have removed the 3 screws at bottom of box and the 2 screws at the top (where the hinge is) and thought the whole box would just pull out. But there seems to be something in the front holding it down. Anyone do this before?

Good news....I figured it out. First I removed the cup holder, it easily popped out. That gave me access to the front of the box. Then I put my hand through cupholder hole, and pushed up gently from the bottom of the armrest interior box and it popped out. There are 2 clips holding the front down. Now off to the upholsterer to install my new leather cover!

It sounds bad, but now might be the time to buy any and all JDM parts. With the yen being in the toilet and the Euro doing a see-saw, we may never get a better chance. It works for them, and for us.
Interesting side note on these JDM parts, though; I spent some time in Japan a few years ago (that's where I got the nickname I use as an alias) and they (some) really can't understand our fascination with these mods. Over there, some of the mechanics I talked to (or I should say my girlfriend translated for) equated it to getting excited over junk or trash. I do remember the first time we were stuck in Tokyo traffic and she flipped on the TV that came stock in her Toyota. It was all in Japanese, but way cool.
Also saw my first 4 door Skyline and even a Skyline station wagon! I'll post pics if I can find them, or start a new thread <BRIGHT IDEA!!!>

I live 15 miles from the home of the Brer Rabbit character and he's hardly known yet he's famous in Japan?
Which of our mods are junk? The carbon fiber armrest (I agree) or replacing a 20yr old cracked armrest? I plan to ebay one -- they were about $20 last time I looked. My brother's 89 Supra got a new armrest cover when it was only 5 years old. 17 years later the real leather cover is still in good shape.

There are 2 clips holding the center console box in. Its clipped in directly underneath the coin holders. Put your finger inthe hole where the lid clips in and lift up, then slide the box forward.

MooJohn, it all came down to the way they pronounced my name. Since L and R are basically the same in Japanese, Blair became Brer. And the name just stuck.
As far as the "junk parts" go, the mechanic I talked to just couldn't understand why I bought as many of the JDM lenses for the 300zx as I could. He specialized in Zs, so it didn't make a lot of sense to him why I bought 10 of them at a time. I kept telling him that those of us in the West liked that clean look, but maybe the language barrier had something to do with it.
I love the Chandler house, btw. I grew up hearing those stories, and being a proud GA boy I got a kick out of the name Blair becoming "Brer". And the "Rabbit" came from Robert, which was pronounced ra-bi-to.
