Default Center console lid problem

I have a 1996 SC400 with only 77,000 miles, but the console lid latches, then spring tension holds it up a little against the latch. Every time I rest my elbow on it, it clunks down 3/16th's to an 1/8th of an inch.

It has four little button type things on the lid that leave a slight indentation on the bottom piece, but what is supposed to keep tension on the lid in the down position to keep it from moving up and down that 3/16th's every time your elbow rests and lifts off of it?

Mine does the same thing. Might stop by Wal-mart and pick up those little felt round things that you stick to the bottom of things to keep from scratching the surface of tables. Hoping those are thick enough to keep it from being so loose.

Default i got the fix

i got the fix, it was grinding my gears so..........

go to hardware store (homedepot, lowes.ect?) buy a pack of little stick on clear rubber cabinet door bumpers. these are used on cabinet doors to keep them from making loud noise when shut. a 10 pack cost like 1.97 and you only need 2. use the others in your kitchen.

felt ones dont work i tried them 1st....then went to the rubber ones.
and they are the correct thickness (felt to thin and you cant stackem)

So you have all the rubber "bumpers" in place?

My problem was that 2 were gone and needed to be replaced. I found the EXACT rubber bumpers at my local True Value hardware store popped them in and problem solved. Home Depot and Lowes are useless for this as they didnt have the specialty parts like this store did and they were only .97 a piece and the right solution.

Good luck!

I got new cushions for the console from the Toyota dealer. The part # is A46-17-H1 90541-03078. They are kind of tricky to install, they’re almost ¾ of an inch long.
Even with new cushions there is still some play in the console lid as a small depression has been made in the console base by the cushions. I'm going to check out powerjunky's reco and try some clear rubber cabinet door bumpers or maybe try the felt ones and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tips, I thought that there must be more to it than just shimming it up. Having owned an LS, RX, and ES, this just seemed so unLexus like to have something that bumps and rattles.

One more thing, the four rubber feet on my lid have a flat surface, was there something else stuck on those? ie does yours have a rounded end, or a flat end?

They are flat. I bought ones that were bigger than called for to take care of the gap and replaced all four and voila...no play at all. Going thru the dealer is fine but expensive and might not solve the problem if there is more of a gap. They are a PITA to change so figured while I was in there I would change them all out.

Good luck.

Called Lexus Today
Cushions part 9054103078
Cost $7 a piece
Yikes

Went to walmart but they did not have the right ones. I had to stack 3 or 4 bumpers for one side. I might try true value this evening
