Default New guy from Canada needs help with what SC to buy

I currently drive a 95 Nissan Maxima and don't get me wrong I love my Nissan, but I got it used and I mean used. They body is pretty ruff shape and at just under 340,000km (210800miles) it's only seen about half of it's potential mileage on a well maintained Maxima, but the previous owners didn't take amazing care of it and if I can't get it in tip top shape the cars I'm looking at are 300zx TT, 240sx, and SC400.

I looked on our autotrader (trader.ca) and I couldn't find any SC300's in Ontario so I'm assuming they were never sold in Canada. There are some SC400s though and I was wondering how realistic it is to swap a manual tranny into one. I've done some searching and most of what I've found is supra tranny swaps for the SC300. I would really perfer a SC400 and then look at turbo charging it rather then take in the 300 route anyways.

My maxima is an auto right now and I really would prefer a manual, without any mods I keep up to SC400s no problem and with my mods custom exhaust, intake, etc. I'm not really any faster then one, so I know they are reasonably quick so if I havta drive an auto I will, but I still would rather drive stick, be it 5spd or 6spd.

I'm also wondering what your guys recommend for model/features to look for in an SC400, I've heard good and bad things about some feature, such as the air bag suspension. So should I look for the coil sping style?

Thank you guys for you help, I might be posting a lot more here really soon.

I'm not an SC owner, just a fan (for now.....). I'm also from Ontario. SC300's are very rare around here, and the ones i have seen on trader.ca are US cars.

The SC400's were UZZ30 cars, meaning air suspension (TEMS) was never offered from the factory. As far as forced induction goes on an SC400, it can be done, but it's not cheap. Look on planetsoarer or lextreme for info on that.

If you want speed, a very appealing option is importing a Soarer (same as SC) from Japan. Since you're in Canada, a 15-year old JDM car can be legally imported. Most of the JDM Soarers have the 1JZ-GTE motor which gives you twin turbos from the factory. A decent Soarer can be had for around $8500, with about 75-100k. Compared to SC400 prices, a Turbo Soarer is a bargain. If this option appeals to you check out

Whatever your decision, good luck finding your SC.

I've seen some Soarer's on this site...
J-Spec Imports

What kind of performance am I looking at with one of these?
The v8 in the SC400 i find really appealling though, especially if I were to turbo charge it.

A stock Soarer TT will do 0-60 in a little under 6 seconds, and will go on to 173 mph (highest i've read). With a little money spent (FMIC, downpipe), the 1JZ cars can be made quite a bit faster. Doing a turbo SC400 wouldl not be cheap, but if you have the budget go for it.

If you want performance go with the Soarer with 1JZ. They are priced well.

If you really want a V8 turbo make sure you or someone you know is very good at fabrication.
