Trailer Hitch on Sc400 Need Help!
Hey guys. I haven't been on here in about a year now. But I really need some help with this one. I am now a pretty busy mobile DJ. I have to borrow my friends car for my gigs because I can't fit my DJ equipment into my car. I know in a year or so I will be getting another car when I have the money. Right now I don't. I want to put a trailer hitch and a 4x6 or 5x8 trailer on the back of it when I travel for my gigs. The owners manual says I can safely tow 1600 lbs and I'll only be towing up to 1300 lbs. The biggest problem I see from reading the owners manual is that it states I shouldn't drive over 45 mph with a trailer on the back. I have to drive at least 65-70 on the interstate for all the traveling gigs. What do yall think I should do. Would I be OK driving 70 with it? Is 1300 lbs of trailer too much for my small car?

trailer hitch on a SC400?? total disrespect to a beautiful car. I dj as well,... and 2 turntables, a bag with mixer, kaos pad, and 3 crates of records sit inside of my car. Hence, my suggestion to you is to have your venues rent the sound equipment, have set up and delivered to your gig, factor that into the price, and just plug in when you get there.
The 2 turntables in front seat,... 3 crates across the back and mixer bag on top.

1300 lbs is not too bad for a V8.
I don't know why the manual would say that about speeds.
As long as the tongue weight (vertical weight) on the hitch is not too large, you should be fine.
You might be looking at a new tranny pretty soon though.
Good luck.

Well I mostly DJ for private parties such as sorority & frat parties. I have my own PA system, 10 foot light truss with 12 effects lights, table, DJ stand, CD players, & so on. How fast do you think I can safely drive with the 1300 lbs on the back?

With the wieght of the car and a 5X8 trailer you should have no problems cruising at a steady 80mph. Its the stopping you have to keep in mind and to be safe a good aftermarket tranny cooler would be a big help. Cars are a little different than trucks so it will take quite a bit more room to stop the sc with a trailer on the back and the car will handle completely different. The longer trailer will be more stable cause of the weight and less likely to jerk the car all over the place on bumpy roads. Maybe a beater P/U or Van would be worth looking into.
