Fine print from ebay dealer on 19-in performance tires
Hi,
While browsing inventory of RX350 online, I found the following fine print . Are they specifically talking about 19" performance tires or all 19" performance tires. We like smoother ride. Do we need to pick a model with 18" or ok with 19"
=======================
19-in performance tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 15,000 miles, depending upon driving conditions.

I honestly can't say for sure. However I did hear a Lexus sales person tell a customer that the tires on the IS F Sport would need to be replaced between 15-20k miles. Not sure of the specifics I was just surprised to hear of a tread life that short and thought I would share it.

Lexus has been putting this disclaimer on all of its low profile tires starting early 2000s. Nothing to worry about.
Just look at the UTQG tire rating.
Take that number (percentage), divide by 100 and multiply by 7,200 miles... or just multiply it by 72. The results is about how long a tire is made to last in specific conditions. Ignore any warranty numbers because they are meaningless.

It just depends on tread life, not so much the size. Some tires are designed for longer tread life than others. But with "High Performance" tires, they are usually made with a softer rubber compound so they are stickier and handle better. But soft tires wear faster.
Best thing to do is google the tire model and look for reviews. Tirerack.com has a lot of reviews as well.

This usually applies more to summer performance tires as the softer compound wears faster. While A/S perf tires could wear a little faster I would be shocked to say the least if the 19" Michelin A/S tires on my wife's RX F-Sport wear out in 15K miles..

The pursuit of F
Agree with all the above. In short, the 235/55/19 in tires on the RX (whether it's an F-Sport or regular RX) is an all-season crossover/touring tire (from Michelin, Bridgestone, or Dunlop) far from a performance tire which last similarly as long as the 18 in tires. It's just Lexus' standard disclaimer. As for comfort, the 19s ride just slightly firmer than the 18s.

the original 19" Michelins on my 2010 are now at 38K miles and are well worn (evenly)
I will be changing them by 40K, they're about done.
Will probably replace with Michelins or Bridgestones.
