Default Lights on the Garage Door Opener Button (GDO)

We are getting to the short days up north of the arctic circle, so today I thought I would get started on assessing what it takes to illuminate the GDO buttons (yes I have read the other threads) So right now I have a lot of info and plans but the wife caught me in the middle so I had to put it all back together I probably wont get back to it for while but I am going to see if I can find some scrapyard switch buttons to play with. Meanwhile if anyone wants to take up the torch, feel free to do so.

First to remove the overhead console, pop open the Enform/Sunglass holder, remove the two screws and pull hard at the end to the rear of the car

The whole console pops out - this is what it looks like

Once you remove the top ABS part, you will see the actuators from the buttons for the switches

Its quite easy to push out the GDO switch buttons as long as you don't break the little tabs. It is much easier if you take out the lonk "Homelink" strip first

This picture isn't very clear but I tried to show that you could drill a small hole under the number for an LED to shine through

While I was at it, these photos may help for other stuff inside the console

Note the correct name for all the buttons printed on the circuit board

Now lets hope that Tinypic keeps the pictures hosted for while....

You could always retrofit another unit in the car.

This has back-lit buttons.

Wow, thanks for your insight. Maybe even clipping a garage door controller to the sun visor would work as well

No problem. I'll get to it immediately after graduating from MIT.
