Default Extended Warranty

I have a 2010 RX350 and will be reaching the 4 years next month and current mileage is close to 40,000. My wife has been using the car and would be driving prob 6000 miles/year. I got quotes for 7yrs/75,000 miles and 8 years/75,000 miles for $1255 and $1415 respectively. So far the vehicle has been good condition. Typically have seen in my toyota's issues creep after 80,000 miles. So I am in a double mind whether the extended warranty would be worth it or not. If I have to take the extended warranty like the Lexus platinum coverage, I need to do it before the end of this month. Any thoughts from someone who might have used it and/or their experience would really help. Thanks!

Read the fine print as to what you believe would be covered/expectations versus what they actually cover. Some mechanical components around the transmission, exhaust, and engine, if they break, may be considered wear and tear and will not be covered. Personally, for 6k miles per year, in 3 or 4 more years from now, you will only be at 58k or 64k miles which is well below anything threatening for a Lexus. I'm not one for extended warranties personally, not on a Lexus/Toyota. But at the end of the day, if you've done your due diligence with the fine print, and you just want the extra peace of mind, the cost may be worth it for you.

PS. If you do go for it, the better value proposition by far is the 8/75k. The extra year is only 160$ more than the 7/75k which comes out to about $420 per year (for 3 extra years from today) vs $350 per year for the 4 extra years of the 8/75k.

Good luck

I also hear that you can shop around and find different prices for the same warranty. A friend saved near $300 on his Lexus warranty by simply doing it over the internet with out of town Lexus dealer.

Talk to Jerry @ Midwest Toyota. He has helped others here at CL. You just need to still be under warranty. Have your VIN available as needed. Just search for his contact info here at CL.

Default Warranty

Saw it posted on a Toyota Forums that Toyota is no longer allowing out of state warranties to be sold.
