Default Rear View Mirrors

2014 RX 450h newbie here (Day 12).

So I drove the car for the first time today and am wondering why the reflection in the Rear View Mirror is so dark? Is there a way to lighten it?

I did finally find the buttons for the Anti-Glare function on the far right and didn't notice a difference in the daylight.

Thanks in advance.

Cheryl, the RX has dark tinted windows at the rear so rear view mirror reflections will be less bright than a standard non-tinted car in the daytime. The anti-glare mirror works only when a sudden strong light shines towards it relative to the ambient lighting. I.e., at night time when a car's headlights approach, it will dim the lights to minimize the bright distracting reflection into your line of sight. Same for the exterior mirrors.

You're definitely discovering lots of new features compared to your Camry, hopefully we can help shed some light (no pun intended) so you can enjoy your RX.

You will laugh about this then. After we took the car home I was wondering why the leather in the back seats didn't match the front seats. I thought Toyota would not do that on purpose. Hubby then pointed out to me that the rear passenger windows were tinted.

Yep, its a great feature. There is a sensor on the front of the mirror facing the rear of the car, and then another light sensors on the back of the mirror facing the windshield. When the mirror detects more light from the back than than the front, it will dim all three mirrors in varying shades. There is a way to turn it off by clicking the button in the front of the mirror

I can't live without this now, I've been spoiled. The other night had to take the family van out instead to do a run. I kept thinking someone was right up beside me on the highway but wouldn't pass and I was getting annoyed by the lights and that they wouldn't go by. Finally looked more closely, nope, they were 200ft back, not even close to me. I sorely missed the auto-dimmed side mirrors.

I have to admit I had a chuckle but I truly appreciate the honesty.
