Default Nav - Custom Route

2012 Rx350.

In the NY metro area there are a hundred ways to get anywhere, and the Nav system's 3 choices are rarely what I want. So, is there any way to set my own route exactly how I like it, and then save it so when I go to that place (mostly when my wife goes!) it will stick to that custom route..?? thnx

Perhaps set up areas to avoid and see if the route is to your liking then. Unfortunately, there are only 10 locations you can set as avoid.

MNP, one thing you can do is use route trace. On the map, click on "show on map," "route trace." Little dots appear as you drive. The screen will start looking like an ant farm, LOL! Once you arrive at your destination, go back into "show on map" to turn route trace off. It will ask if you want to save it. Select yes. The marked route will remain on the screen. I don't believe you can get turn by turn directions from route trace. I think it's just a visual guide on the nav screen.

Another option is to enter up to 10 areas to avoid by name, location or size. About 1,000 would be more appropriate for this area. From the main screen, select "setup," "navi," "areas to avoid." It looks like each 'area' can be turned on or off individually. It's not ideal but one way to get closer to the route you want.

Hopefully someone else has other suggestions.

The are several possible ways to our daughter's house and I like what my wife and daughters call the "back way". To force the Nav System to route us that way I saved the intersection of freeway and county road that is only on my preferred route. I do have to enter both locations on the route to force it to follow the route I want, and as I near the intermediate destination I use the voice command, "Delete Next Destination" to avoid the Nav System trying to turn us around after we pass it.

This works well for us both coming and going and even though I am more familiar with all the back roads now I still use the Nav System to make sure I don't miss a turn and to keep track of our progress.

Thanks everyone. I guess not so easy to do. I wonder if a $150 Garmin can do it. This is the result of a trip my wife took from Westchester County to Long Island the other day. The infuriating part was that she was on the Hutchinson River Pkwy which leads straight on to the Whitestone Bridge, but the Nav wanted her to take the Throggs Neck Bridge (it really doesn't matter which bridge is taken) and asked her to get off EVERY exit of the Hutch, when it clearly should have known that the path of least resistance was now to continue on the Hutch to the Whitestone Br. She's not crazy about driving and this made the trip even more stressful.
