Default what kind of head lights am I looking at?

I'm looking at a used 450H and I'm confused. The salesman said this car has LED headlights but when i look at the front end there looks to be one projector style "bulb" and next to it is the halogen type reflector.

When I turn on the lights the projector comes on. When I flip to high beams a lens or something flips in the projector. I never see the "reflector" lens light up so I'm confused.

thanks for any help. I'm pretty close to buying this car just trying to get a few details sorted out.

I think you are looking at a 450h with HID headlights. These were an option that I think was included on most (all?) of the 450h's. These are the brightest and best headlights that were offered. The halogen reflector lights are your daytime running lights. If the cars is a 2010 - 2012 model, the headlights will turn with the steering wheel to give you a little better coverage when driving. Also if you are looking at the lights on the car in the evening, you can notice that the HID's were self leveling. This means that when you turn the car on they will move up and level into position ... it looks cool. This is definitely an option you want on the car.

Here is a thread with pictures describing the different headlights. It doesn't sound like LEDs based on what you mentioned. Another way to tell, LEDs were standard with the luxury package and also available as a standalone option. I included it as part of my special ordered 450h and ditched the HIDs that came in the comfort package. The LEDs are definitely cool but HIDs are the brightest like UCSB mentioned.

Glad to hear I'm working with HIDs. I did not want LEDs. This car is almost perfect except for the slight moaning noise from the steering wheel when maneuvering through parking lot.

As UCSB said, it's likely the HID's. I have them and they are always a constant. High and Low beam are really a shutter that closes about half way for low beam and opens all the way for high beam. You'll love them, I've never experienced better headlamp illumination.
