I'm assuming the RX 350's 3.5 L is the exact same engine as the one in our RAV4 (6 cyl) we replaced the RX with, in which case I can use the same Toyota filter I used before.
I changed the oil in the RAV all the time and it was a breeze even though I will admit the cartridge type filter is a little more hassle and a lot more messy than a standard filter.

...how about the tool needed to change the filter?...SEWELL sell them for $60 or so...anything cheaper than that?....or is that the precise tool needed and it is a fair price?...thanks for all the help..

Amazon.com sells the Assenmacher Toyota 640 oil filter wrench for $16.44 with shipping I think I paid $22.00 a few months ago. It's the perfect fit. Try this link.

Actually all you need is the $8 K-D Tools 3253 and a 3/8 socket wrench.

I have this Assenmacher tool. It is a solid piece of metal and it would withstand the high torque required to unscrew the RX350 oil filter casing.

The $8 K-D Tools 3253 seems to have an issue.
There was a few pictures on Amazon showing this K-D tool broken into 2 parts.

I have used the K-D Tools 3253 many times on my former RAV4 without any problems. Most of the negative reviews are from idiots that bought the wrong tool for their car. (One had the 4 cyl RAV4 and complained it did not fit. Duh.)

Thanks for the info, but when I looked at the tool it did confuse me....what am I seeing wrong?...in another pic shows more like a piece of metal that attches to the bottom of a filter....could you explain what am I doing wrong here?...thanks..

You guys were awesome for me. I have never changed oil ever in my 31 years. But with the prices of these changes, and the ease that I learned it was, I knew it was time to learn. Those step by steps were awesome and the info on parts with descriptions were too.

FYI, if there's any others out there that haven't done something like this before, my oil filter housing wanted to turn with the screw. I actually had to slightly tighten the housing with the Assenmacher TOY 640 first, just slightly, so I could insert the 3/8 extension and remove the housing.

SAPNY, you have no clue who mechanically DEclined I am and it was easy with their directions.

Can somebody explain how to actually reset the damn alert on the cluster?

Basically, make sure you have odometer 1 showing when you shut off the vehicle. With the vehicle off, hit the odometer button and leave it in. Hit the start button to turn on the vehicle (Do not press the brake to start it though). Keep the odometer button pressed until the progress bar completes and the light goes off.

I am not sure what the torque is for the oil drain plug for a RX 350 but the Torque required for a 2010 ES 350 is a follows: Oil Drain Plug is 22 ft/lbs, oil filter drain plug is 11 ft/lbs. and the oil filter cartridge is 18 ft/lbs. I converted these from N.m torque specs. Hope this helps everyone. And, you are right, 30 ft/lbs it too much for the oll drain plug.
